Cancun - Where are the best beaches?
My husband and I stayed at Club Med for our honeymoon in 1995. We are thinking of going back in June 1998. We really enjoyed the calm, gradual, deserted beaches that Club Med had. We won't be staying at Club Med this time but would like access to a beach like Club Med had. At which end of Cancun should we stay? What hotels would you recommend? We'd like to stay in the $70. - $120. range.

Cancun has only one large beach on the Eastern side, and a lagoon in the middle/West side of a long split shaped like Florida in miniature. I liked Club Med, but as you go further North on the beach, it becomes crowded and busy. The town ( with shopping and restaurants) is at the Northern point. Most hotels are new or have some service problems so do not expect perfection or traditional European style service. The beach is beautiful and the weather is great except in hurricane season.

HI: SUN PALACE AND WESTIN REGINA ARE BOTH ON THE SOUTHERN PART OF CANCUN ISLAND AND HAVE NICE BEACHES BUT MORE SURF THAN CLUB MED. WHEN WE STAYED AT SUN PALACE WE LIKED TO WALK UP THE BEACH (ABOUT A 20-25 MINUTE WALK) AND SNORKLE AT CLUB MED. MANY OTHERS DID THE SAME. BOTH THOSE HOTELS ARE NICE BUT BOTH ARE PROBABLY MORE EXPENSIVE THAN THE PRICE YOU QUOTED !! EMAIL ME IF YOU NEED TO !

I suggest you get a package deal through Apple Vacations. They combine air and hotel and you save big time over booking each seperate. The beach around the Omni is nice. I have stayed at the Westin and at Continental Villas. The beaches midway up the hotel strip are the best. The closer you get to the downtown area the less beach you have. The last time I was in Cancun it was May and the surf was very rough but the weather was cloudless and great. I think that you will have alot of hotels to pick from in your price range.
