Cancun Vacation in March
A girlfriend and I are going to Cancun on March 15-22, and are staying at the Solymar. I haven't been able to find out much on the hotel, but am looking for info on the tulum/xelha tour and restaurants close by the hotel. Also wondering about the safety of two women (20s)at night spots in
cancun. Did you drink the water?

Hi, good choice of hotel and destination. The Tulum Xel Ha tour is ok.the ruins at Tulum are not as extensive as Chichennitza, but are interesting enough, especially since there are a lot of advertisements out there with pictures of the ruin, how nice months from now to pick up a mag and see the view, I was there....Xel Ha was great for snorkeling, the water is so clear you can see a lot of fish from the shore, but the tours doesn't stay there long enough...Try Aqua World and if you want to swim with the dolphins, go to Isla Mujeres for the Dolphin Encounter. If you want more details E Mail me and I'll write you a book....Harriet

This is one place that you should not be afraid. Use caution if going to the far downtown Cancun at night. The trip you mentioned to Tulum is a very nice day. You may not wear regular sun screen at the nature preserve (take a tee shirt to wear in the water) but do wear it to Tulum. I loved every minute I spent at Tulum touring around the restored buildings, grave sites, and listening to the story of the town. You can actually still see some paint that decorated some of the buildings. It is a breathtaking spot and I would return again. Your tour guide will take you to a spot where you can buy lunch and a soft drink or water. In Cancun proper, all the restaurants, bars, hotels you can drink tap water. I have been to Cancon twice and drank lots. Do Not eat or drink (except from a bottle) from street vendors. The prices are good but it is not worth the risk. Take a bus anywhere you go in Cancun. It will be 3 pesos a little under 50 cents. There is only one road so you can not get lost. I have vacationed there alone and did not feel funny about walking down the street at 10pm. In the airport pick up a free book "What to do in Cancun". It will give you a discount card and lots of suggestions on attractions and restaurants. Take lots of sun screen and enjoy!!!!!!!

I went to Cancun last March at the same time with 3 friends (all of us 20-21 girls). It is college spring break time so there are a ton of Americans there. The nightclubs are mostly American too. You should be safe as long as you stick together with your friend adn use common sense. The Mexican guys (especially in the market) are very forward and will hit on you. This is fun for a while but can get annoying if you are actually trying to shop. I don't know where the Solymar is, but the Oasis has a great beach for people watching and great water for swimming. Be careful with the meat--make sure it is well done. The water should be safe but one of my friend's got Montezumas while we were there and so did some other people who went a different time. To be extra safe, drink bottled water and take some Pepto tablets with you just in case. Have fun in Cancun. It kicks ass!

The nightspots in Cancun are great and safe, however, they are very packed and it is easy to get seperated from your group. Especially after you have had a few drinks and someone needs to go to the bathroom and another wants to go to go get another drink, and someone wants to dance. Try to stay together. The places with the best nightlife in Cancun are La Boom, DadyO's, and Senor Frogs. If you go to Senor Frogs, go on the Water Slide.
