hello mnm, are you the real slim shady? ok sorry i haven't slept well.

once you exit the airport building doors, you will see dozens of men on the sidewalk with names on signs. find your name. you will have a van to yourself with english speaking driver. very good service! they will likely assign the same driver for your return trip.
fyi - inside the airport there are tons of people trying to get your attention. totally ignore them. just keep walking like you know what you're doing. they are selling rides, condos, etc.
if you don't already know about red light/green light - it's their customs system. you walk through screening and are asked to push a button. if you get the green light you go on, if you get red one you must stop for a bit of hands through your suitcase inspection. it is all totallly arbitrary.
if you are staying in cancun just grab a taxi.

Depending on how you booked, transport to your hotel may be included in your package. We have used Cancun Valet and have been very pleased.

Thanks everyone, most helpful. This is our first trip to Cancun and I had heard the airport is overwhelming with people offering rides and timeshares, etc. I think for our first time we'll use a pick up service even though we are staying in the Cancun hotel zone. A cab is about $20 each way vs. a private van for about $32.50 each way, but sounds so much easier. Thanks again.

Just make sure you walk straight out of the airport after passing customs. Do NOT talk to any of the people inside who are telling you they are your ride. Your ride will be waiting OUTSIDE for you.

I think you made the right decision re: using a pickup service for first time.
And schmerl is right about not talking to the people inside the aiport after customs. They are very "in your face". Just keep on walking. The pickup service will be outside holding a sign with your name on it.
Have a great time.
