Can you drink the water in Cuba

We are leaving for Cuba on Saturday and I was wondering if the water is safe to drink? Has anyone had any problems. IS it safe to eat salads while visiting?

Thanks,

I've travelled quite a bit within Cuba, both on and off resorts. On most of the major resorts it's ok to drink the water, or have ice in your drinks. For example, the entire Varadero penninsula, a common destination for tourists, has a 1st world quality water treatment plant that supplies it. However I also exercise prudent caution when traveling about the rest of the country. For me the rules then become bottled water only. I'd sooner be safe then have a problem that could ruin my travels. But as a generalization, water in Cuba is much safer than other Latin American countries.

If you are an American, you may not drink Cuban water, because of the embargo. Water drinking would represent a felony added on to your felony of going there in the first place. Eating will be impermissable as well.

I'm a US citizen and my husband is Canadian with a US greencard. We're thinking of traveling to Cuba through Canada. Will I get in trouble? if they don't stamp my passport then I'm fine, right? Some guidance please...
