Calling Beachbum and Ziggy

I just realized that you are off to STX and the Buccaneer next weekend. Have a fabulous time! And if you are back before we leave at the crack of dawn on 2/17, would you let me know where you ate and how it went? Also, any good snorkeling beach ideas?

One last thought--if you go to Fredericksted during the day you might want to check out Changes in Latitude for lunch and a snorkel. Great nachos. Island feel. We enjoyed it before our horseback riding. May go back this year.

Carol

We are at the Buc now. Love the wireless connection from the family cottage. decent signal as well. We were in st thomas for 3 days and this is our second day here at the buc. I'll post my report in another thread. Thanks again for all the valuable info.

I actually figured out that I had missed your departure by reading another thread. Glad all is well. And my husband will be thrilled to hear that there is a wireless connection in the Family Cottages now. That's a change.

Will look forward to reading your report. Don't forget to say hi to Babylon, Patricia and Dalu at breakfast--tell them the Rosners will be there in 10 days!

Thanks Carol!
We're leaving this Saturday and are SO excited - we've already made reservations to Duggans, Kendricks and Bacchus. (Thanks again for all your suggestions!). Will definitely try and check out Changes in Latitude too.

BTW - Do you know if any of the beaches have hammocks where we can just lie around all day on?

No Hammocks here. Duggans lobster was great. Buck island is a must but you already knew that. Come visit at room 167 for full report. Leaving Sunday morning. Stay away from the filet mignon at kendricks and you'll be ok.

Ziggy--Glad you are having fun (at least I think you are!). Called reservations and they have our arrangments correctly. She thought the confusion came from another family of a similar name checking in that day. Safe travels home. I forget where you live....hope this big snowstorm that's arriving in Boston late Sat/Sun won't screw up your return....

Beachbum--Have a terrific time. There may not be hammocks but there are definitely lounge chairs and you won't have to fight for one. When do you come home? We're arriving 2/17. Also, don't kill yourself to go to Changes in Latitude. But if you find yourself over near Fredericksted, it's a fun place for lunch and a swim.

Ziggy--tried any other restaurants? Cafe Blue? Elizabeth's? Just curious.

Ye we're coming back to NY Sunday evening. dont want to think about snow yet but thanks for the heads up. So far we did kendricks, duggans and rum runners (yesterday). all good except kendricks. I added Bucchus to the mix (tonight) and do cheeseburgers for lunch. Tommorow Savant. The entire family is having a blast. the kids dont want to leave Carol and the kids club which is getting to be a minor problem. We are renting a car today to explore the island and they dont want to come.

Thanks for the heads up re filet mignon ziggy - i think we'll mostly be sampling the seafood tho! I'm so excited! I'm not quite sure if we're going to end up going to Buck Island actually. We only have 3 full days in the island so if we do go, it'll only be for the half day tour. we've done a couple of half day tours and most of the time it feels like you don't have enough time to actually enjoy the island..i guess we can always decide when we get there!

ps: we'll stop by to say hi ziggy!

Buck Island was the highlight of our entire trip. That includes st john/st thomas. Snorkling there was the best I ever done and the entire trip is about 3 hours.
We are at the family cottages between the great house and the beach

Ziggy--
Do tell us how you made out trying to get back to NYC yesterday. I'm guessing you are probably in San Juan or Miami still waiting for the airports to open. Hope it wasn't too tough with the kids.

Tough for the kids? hardly. Our flight was canceled while we were at the airport in st croix and we nevr made it out so staying 2 extra days in st croix since monday flights were all booked. Even our flight to san juan was delayed by an hour. must be snowing there too
So instead of going back to the buc we decided to check out carambola just to try something different. BIG MISTAKE. This is not the Buccaneer. If not for us and the kids making friends right away I would consider getting out of here and going back home to the buc. Last night went to the bathroom and saw a roach bigger than my index finger browsing through my things on the counter. Anyway, 2 more days before the shoveling. Oh and Bacchus and Savant turned out to be our favorite meals.

And if you gonna visit Fredrik. and even if you wont, if you drive on the coast south-west off the city there's a beautiful beach right by a place called Sandcastles on the beach. Just try to avoid lunch there tho.

Well...if you had to be delayed, it's best to be "stuck" on St. Croix! Glad you didn't get to SJU. We did that once (on a BVI trip before kids) and ended up sleeping on the floor of the SJU airport. Not fun. But memorable.

Sorry to hear about Carambola. Yuk. But if the kids have made friends, you might as well stay.

We've reservations at Bacchus on Sunday night. My crew isn't nuts about Savant (probably because we've only ever eaten inside and it's tight) but we may give it a go again. Hoping our Kendricks meals are better than yours.

Enjoy!

Well after spending all day at crapola its not all that bad I have to say. The beach turned out to be a nice surprise and we probably had the most relaxing day today while having nothing planned. I'm thrilled we decided to stay instead of going to san juan.

Hi! Ziggy! I'm sooo sorry your flight got canceled! I actually stopped by your room the Saturday we arrived to say hi but no one was around.

We had such a lovely time in the Buccaneer! The staff was LOVELY and so accomodating! We stayed in the oceanfront rooms. They actually initially put us up in room 307 which wasn't really oceanfront...so we requested for a room change and they gave us one the next day! almost right in front of the beach!

I agree with you - Buck Island is DEF a must. We took the Big Beard full day tour - from 9.30 - 3.30 and really enjoyed it! We had a delicious bbq on the beach too.

Bacchus was good but Kendricks was excellent! We wanted to try everything on the menu! The rack of lamb was excellent. Carol - I hope you made reservations in advance. We wanted to change our reservations for an hour later but the restaurant was fully booked.

Enjoy your vacation Carol. From the sounds of it, Ziggy sure did and we definitely did not want to come back!

Beachbum--

So glad you had a great time at the Buccaneer. We think the friendliness and service-orientation has improved over the years so I am glad you found that to be the case. Did you meet Patricia, Babylon or Dalu at breakfast?

Glad you liked Kendricks as I was sorry to hear that ziggy did not. We have made reservations for Rumrunners (twice), Kendricks (twice), Duggans, and Bacchus. Leaving options open for the other nights--possibly Cafe Blue, Elizabeth's or The Galleon.

Guess you had no trouble with the weather... It's now 55 degrees in Boston but the cold will return while we were away. We are VERY excited and now just counting the hours

Be sure to go to Tripadvisor.com and write a good review of the Buccaneer.

Carol

Beachbum, too bad we missed each other. We were very busy and I cant tell you how thrilled I was when my flight was cancelled. I was celebrating at the airport which annoyed some people. One couple was complaining why the flight to san juan was delayed, not realizing that the flight from san juan was cancelled. They were concerned that they'd miss it. We had the most relaxing time at the carambola. Nothing planned, just sat at the pool and beach all day.
