BVI Camping Honeymoon

Hi there!
My fiance and I really really want to go to Anegada and Virgin Gorda for our honeymoon (2 weeks end of May, beginning of June). Desolation and beauty are exactly what we want. We were thinking of 1 week camping on Anegada (Mac's Campground on Lolloby Bay) and 1 week in a cottage at Guavaberry, by the Baths on V.G. Are we crazy to go camping (their tents, not ours)? What will the weather and no-see-ums/mosquitos be like at that time? He's never been to the Caribbean, and I've only been to an all-inclusive on St. Lucia before (not my style, really). Please, can somebody help us?

Mimi,
Weather should be hot and sunny - tropical showers can blow through, but then sun comes out again. I think camping down there is great, but I will caution you that yes, you will need bug spray, sand gets everywhere, and you'll need to conserve water and be inventive about meals. I think it is relatively easy camping - just wake up, put on a swim suit, jump in the water. Stay in you suit most of the day! Read, explore, nap, read, eat, swim, nap, you get the picture. You picked two very different islands, geographically speaking. Anegada if flat and dry - great bonefishing. Virgin Gorda is hilly and more lush. Both are relatively quiet. You may want to check out Ivan's White Bay Campground on Jost Van Dyke as well - it is on one of the prettiest and quietest beaches I have ever been to. I love the BVIs - hope you do too.

Thanks so much Melissa! Sorry to get back to you so late, but I was wondering if you had ever been to Mac's Campground on Anegada before and whether or not there are usually any kind of showers (makeshift or other) at any of the campsites? Thanks again!
mimi

Hello Mimi -
Sounds like great plans for honeymoon. I've never camped on Anageda, tho we sailed there for the day from v.g.
We stayed at Guavaberry, and it's not camping - it's a lovely lovely spot, there are very nice cottages, with kitchens, all amenities. there's a tiny store on the premisese where you can buy necessities (on the honor system).
there's one of the prettiest beaches I've ever seen. And as you know the Baths are right there. I'd go back there in a New York minute. However, we were there in the winter, so I can't tel you much about how the weather'll be in June. The cottages are up on the hill, so they get the breeze. But they're not prohibitively far from the water, just a short walk down the hill. And being up a bit, the view is magnificent, night and day. Mercy, I'm getting homesick, I'll have to see how their bookings are doing this winter! (I know it's difficult to get in there. Everyone who goes there loves it and goes back and back.)
As you can see, I loved Guavaberry. I've traveled a lot in the Caribbean, and it's one of my very favorite spots.
Happy Honeymoon!
Mimi,
I am not a camper but I would think on your honeymoon you would want something less rugged. Between the bugs, the sand and the heat and humididty I don't think you are going to be very comfortable.Maybe that's what your looking for..but to me a honeymoon is a great time to splurge on a beautiful villa or resort. Just my humble opinion...Good luck in whatever you decide..By the way I have been to Virgin Gorda and it is beautiful...
