Bonaire and Anquila

Hi, We are planning another trip to the Caribbean in February and have heard that the snorkeling on Bonaire is terrific. (We love to snorkel). We would probably stay for 10 days or so and were thinking of Anquila as a second Island. Is it possible to visit both islands in one trip? We would stay there another week. Also need suggestions as to hotels. We were thinking of Capt. Dons Habitat on Bonaire.Any info would be welcome!! Thanks!! Eagle

Bonaire and Anguilla are very far apart (probably 750+ miles) and there are no direct flights between the two. Not sure exactly how you might go but I suspect it would involve at least 3 or 4 connecting flight and it's doubtful you could do it all in one day. It really wouldn't be practical. If you want to go to Bonaire and visit a second island I'd suggest you consider Aruba or Curacao. They are close by and will be much easier to get to. Save Anguilla for another time.

Good advice from the previous poster! If I were you, I'd just do Bonaire. Anguilla is a wonderful island with great beaches, but by all accounts the snorkeling isn't that good. So why go all that trouble if snorkeling is important to you?

There is a wealth of information on the Bonaire Talk Forum which is divided into topics that include accommodations and even snorkeling specific trip reports. It's on our 'future' list.

I agree with pairing Bonaire with Aruba, rather than Anguilla.

Captain Don of Habitat is a very dear friend of my best buddy. Although I haven't been to Captain Don's myself, my friend and her family have had wonderful vacations there. He's quite a character!

We are also going to Bonaire and Aruba in November. Bonaire Exel has inexpensive flights between these islands and Curacao. If you'd like to post again after 11/28, I should be able to provide you with information regarding snorkeling spots, hotels, etc..

Actually Dutch Caribbean Airline (DCA) has a nonstop flight between St. Maarten and Curacao so getting from Anguilla to St. Maarten and Curacao to Bonaire is pretty simple. However, I do agree with other posters probably better to just do the ABCs and save Anguilla for another trip.

Yes, but we had some terrible experiences with Dutch Caribbean Airways years ago (then it was still called ALM) - delays of 2 hours and more, and decided never to fly them again! From what I've read, their reputation is still pretty terrible... I just wouldn't risk it.

Thanks for the information. I think we will take your advice and do just the ABC islands this time. I'll check back with "Sceneisle "after November for your advice too. I'm not sure how we will fly to Bonaire. Will probably try to fly from Atlanta or Miami. Thanks again!!!
