Best hotel in PR: El Conquistador
Just returned from a few days in Puerto Rico. We stayed at the El Conquistador Resort & Golden Door Spa in Fajardo. What a wonderful experience. The hotel is beautiful and the service is the best!! We really felt well taken care of. We took full advantage of the pools, beach, water activities and spa. And we rented a car to go to the rain forset--very well worth it. I loved every minute of this much needed vacation--I only wish it didn't have to end.

Beth,
We are thinking of staying at the El Conquistador this Jan. I've read a lot of bad reviews on the quality of the rooms. What building did you stay in? Which ones would you reccommend? The hotel seems to have the best of it all though (beach, restaurants, spa) so the rooms may not completely be the deal breaker!

The sister resort the Dorado beach is much more laid back and the ambience in the rooms are fairly upscale but at a price. But, 300 yards away you can walk to the El Conquistador for some "action" if you want it. It based on 2 experiences attracts lwess families than the El Conquestador resort.

We jsut returned from staying at Westin Rio Mar in Puerto Rico (which was quite nice). While there we drove down to look El Conquistador over and quite frnakly we were not overly impressed. It is big, yes, but because of this it felt like a huge convention center. The whole place was rough around the edges and looked rather shabby overall. There is lots of construction going on since the hotel is no longer managed by Wyndhan so perhaps it will get spiffed up. It just seemed to be one of those grand old ladies that had gone a bit to seed.
