I agree... Negril is great. The beach was voted #3 in the Travel Channel's Top 10 Caribbean Beaches. The people we met were wonderful & having grilled lobsters while watching the sunset from 3 Dives is amazing. The great thing about Negril is the wide variety of places to stay along the beach. You can go upscale AI or save money by staying in a more budget place & eating at the local places. The wonderful feeling of the place is the same no matter what you pay. Let us know what else you want in a hotel besides good swimming & we can suggest some places to check.

I like the beach in Negril but there are better beaches in Jamaica if you prefer waves or no people/vendors or small coves with mountains behind. IMO, best wavy beach: Long Bay, Portland - very few buildings/people, white sand, wide, palm trees. Treasure Beach - lots of small beaches, some wavy, some not, most very empty of people. Best small cove beaches: Frenchman's, Boston Bay (with great jerk as a bonus there), both in Portland.
beth, all hotels in Negril share the same beach, except a handful of AIs which are on Bloody Bay and the cliff hotels which have steps/ladders to access the sea, not sand.
That said, I am find of the mid-beach area around Nirvana/White Sands/Whistling Bird, with the latter having the best beach in terms of space, shade, hammocks, plentiful chaises, etc.
