There's a KFC franchise that some enterprising Bermudian snuck onto the island some years back (a cabinet minister) before they passed a law that prohibits such un-Bermudian things. You will walk in, look at the menu prices & walk right back out. LOL! I'd rather eat lobster.

For cheap eats, try Bermuda's version of fast food, the Ice Queen (one in Paget, next to the pharmacy & one in Hamilton up near the busses). Look for early bird specials & happy hours with nibbles in the restaurants/pubs along Front Street. The pizza place on South Shore Road at the entrance to Horseshoe Bay is brick oven baked & very filling. I think a med pizza for 2 was about 25$, & we split a salad.

We like the sandwich shop by the old church in St. Georges. There's a decent concession stand (hot dogs, et al) at the snorkel bay west of Ft. St. Catherine; sorry, drawing a blank on the name of the bay.

For mid-range $ my personal favorite is the Frog & Onion Pub at the Dockyard. Get quiche & soup & some decadent dessert. Swizzle Inn has great appetizer plates. Sit, eat, drink rum swizzles & listen to the tree frogs after dark.

Please give a current report on the Sonesta when you return & add any restaurant finds.

Have fun!
~PP

Kristin - I can only tell you Sonesta is on South Beach Rd. and perched on the ocean - very close. Good beaches are nearby. Suggest you obtain a Frommers for restaurants. There are few if any inexpensive places close by. You can use Sonesta and South Hampton Princess close by, but they will be a bit pricey. Transportation will be important - either scooter or the multi-day pass for ferry and bus (very good service). Then you can venture west or east for places to eat. Depending on what you wish to spend, you should be able to do great evening meals for two for $100, including a very nice bottle of wine. Hamilton and St. Georges make a long but nice one-day outing. The Dockyard is okay for another. By all means use the ferry system in both directions - fun and scenic. Have a good time. J

We are returning to Bermuda for our 4th visit. We are fortunate enough to stay at a private residence however do enjoy eating at various restaurants on the island. Portofino's which is downtown Hamilton is excellent with good prices. Henry the VIII is overrated - while it was a good meal, it wasn't the best I have had. You can get a meal deal (appetizer/main course/ dessert) for around $35 which is a good price. For pub fare try Robin Hood's which is up a couple of blocks from the main street. Ask for directions. They have great pizza and other fare. It is a sports bar where the locals tend to hang out. Flannigan's on the main street is ok and is the Pickled Onion. The Frog and Onion in the Dockyard is good and my friend who is English said their bubble and sqeak was like her Mom used to make. I think lunch for 5 of us including drinks was around $125. For morning coffee and a light breakfast there is a little cafe directly behind Triminghams on the back street. It is in a little mall. Try their ham and cheese croissant. And believe it or not, the Supermarket (the new one in Hamilton) has great sandwiches in their deli at a good price. You can relax on the waterfront while you have lunch. You can also drink beer outside as long as it is in a brown bag. Ask them to provide.

Last but not least, watch those rum swizzles - the glass might be small but the contents are mighty!!!
