BERMUDA: Southampton, Marriott, Elbow?Help

I hope that someone has visited some of these resorts and can tell me which location you felt had the nicest standard/deluxe room accomodations (i'm wishing for a plush/marble bath look). Also, what was your impression of Bermuda? If you had to do it all over again, would you consider going somewhere else or is it worth going to?
Please e-mail me back on this message board. Thanks!
All 3 properties are very nice - probably boils down to personal preference - with one notable exception. The Marriott, although lovely, is not as centrally located at the other 2. When I stayed there I found that I was ALWAYS getting on the moped to head off somewhere else! Elbow Beach has just undergone extensive renovations, so you may find the "plush/marble bath" look there - certainly worth inquiring about. My favorite of the 3 is the Southampton Princess. The grounds, accomodations and location are all first class.
I've been to Bermuda many many times and still want to return! The people are just about the friendliest you'll meet anywhere! The island is a delight to explore, and I guarantee you'll want to go back too! Any other questions, feel free to email me. Enjoy your trip!
Pam, thanks alot for your feedback. Now I can narrow my decision down to Southampton and Elbow Beach.

We stayed at Elbow Beach last year and loved it. It is centrally located near Hamilton and The Royal Naval Dockyard. The hotel is beautiful and the beach is one of the best I have visited. They also have afternoon tea at 4:00 where there are delicious sandwiches and pastries. There is also a weekly cocktail partty. The service was great.

Hi Pam,

I read your posting to C.O. on the Fodors web site about Bermuda. My fiance and I are considering Bermuda for a honeymoon in October. One question though. We would like to get away for ten days. Is there enough to do for that period of time in Bermuda.

Thanks,

Matt Bozorth
Hi Matt - I think 10 days in Bermuda would be a wonderful honeymoon! Any yes, there are a lot of things to do. If you could give me an idea of your interests, perhaps I could give you some suggestions. The island is great fun to explore by moped, there are great shops to spend money in (!), beautiful beaches to relax on and all kinds of restaurants to enjoy. I'd be happy to answer your questions - feel free to email me.

We just got back and stayed at Southampton. It has
a nice location. (I think the Marriott is on the
bay, not the beach, and I know it is not down on
the part island where the best beaches are.) We
ate dinner one night at a wonderful restaurant at
Elbow Beach. Most of this hotel is still closed
for renovations and only the cottages are open
right now (This would probably make the beach more
private). Elbow Beach is closer to the happenings
of town and most of the site-seeing spots. We plan
to try it out next time we go. I am not sure when
the main part of the hotel will be open again, but
I think they said next fall. Elbow Beach had a
much better private beach than the Southhampton
Princess, and the SHPrincess is not on the beach,
you have to take a shuttle over. I also thought
that the desk clerks were not particularly warm
and friendly.

Have fun, it is a beautiful place.

Judy
