Bermuda or Turks & Caicos with kids?
Hi,
I am trying to plan a quiet 40th b-day for my spouse and want to take our two kids (1 year & 3 years old). Grandma might also be in tow. I am attracted to Bermuda b/c of the ease (and low expense) of getting there from NYC nonstop. Attracted to Turks & Caicos b/c they seem to score high on the forums here for traveling with kids- particularly Grace Bay. However, both locations seem to be quite expensive to stay in. I was hoping for a condo-type accomodation with 2 bedrooms and a kitchenette. Looking for recommendations on 1) which would be the best for travel with the kids (would like a pool and a beach if possible) and 2) accomodations that are not through-the-roof expensive. I've looked at Grace Bay and it seems so expensive, and the Ocean Club is closed for summer. Ideally, this will be a relaxing, sit by the beach and pool vacation. Last thing: trip is for end of August/early September.
Many thanks, you've all been helpful before.

I would try Munro Cottages in Bermuda - www.munrobeach.com - their oceanfront would be great for your kids since they're so young. They don't have a pool, but if they did, I don't think you would even bother with it - the water is very calm and crystal clear. The beach is very small, but I have never seen it crowded. I normally stay at Pompano Beach which is right next door and we walk through the grounds of Munro alot - it really looks like a private piece of paradise. Have a look at the reviews and pictures on tripadvisor. The nice thing about staying there is that if Grandma comes along, you two can make a reservation to have dinner at Pompano. The setting there is so romantic.

I've been to both, love both. With kids and a condo style resort, T&C was made for you.
Grace Bay Beach consistently like a huge giant swimming pool, one of the most kid friendly beaches you'll find anywhere. The condo style hotels are excellent with full kitchens to store kids food and snacks, and with an eating area be extra comfortable.
Most places have kids pools, or bigger pools than any place in Bermuda. Bermuda you can't rent a car, you'd have to taxi everywhere-so getting everywhere can be expensive. The beaches in Bermuda are fairly spread out, and most are on rocks or coves. (Stunning gorgeous, but harder with small children. ) Bermuda has one long beach at Elbow Beach-but that resort is ultra expensive.
Grace Bay is 12 miles long, easy to navigate. If you don't want to rent a car, you can walk (even with small children) to numerous restaurants.
There are 2 Ocean Clubs-both are closed? They've never closed for the summer before-
Try The Sands Resort, closer to walk to other excellent restaurant choices, plus thier restaurant, Hemmingways is excellent especially with children, and on Thursday nights has music playing at dinner-kids will love that.
To get around even more, there is a Gecko Shuttle if you want to try other places too.
Both overall are expensive upscale destinatations overall though-but I can tell you, they are 2 islands where you get what you paid for-you will trully relax.

Should have mentioned that you can get around the island by bus with the kids. It is very cheap and it is a great way to see the island. You can also take the ferry, which is also very cheap and would probably be fun for your 3 year old. Another note about the beach - although it is not long, it is ideal for toddlers since their oceanfront is very calm - you can actually walk out waist-deep for about 300 yards. This place really is a private paradise.

Been to both--I have a 7 year old so your childrens; years are a very recent memory and Bermuda would not have been my daughter's scene; last year, we took her to T & C (Ocean Club) and it was great--beach, pool, right there, easy food, etc. IMO, Bermuda is a great adult destination, but several factors--expense, difficulty getting around the island, make it less than ideal with small children.
Hope this helps--double check that both Ocean Clubs will be closed?
