BERMUDA anything?

I'm headed to Bermuda the second week in May --and now staring to compile my "to do", "to see", and "where to eat" lists. If you can contibute to any or all of my lists, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks!
--Norma

Norma - you don't say if you've been to Bermuda before - so I'll include suggestions that a first time visitor "should see/do". Spend some time in Hamilton shopping and have a bite to eat in one of the many restaurants lining Front Street. Some are upstairs with outdoor balconies - great for people watching. If you're in Hamilton at night, take a horse & buggy ride (everyone should do this at least once!). The ferry is one of the best values on the island - take it out to Dockyard and spend some time out there - see the shops, museum, crafts area, etc. I'm assuming you'll rent a moped to get around - so take your time and explore the island. Turn off on side roads and explore. Horseshoe Bay is a must see (and be sure to have some of their onion rings from the snack bar there!) The aquarium is an interesting stop, as is Crystal Caves. St. Georges is worth an afternoon exploring, too. Be sure to stop at the Swizzle Inn and have their famous rum swizzles and Monte Cristo sandwiches - no trip to Bermuda is complete with them! Over the years and many visits to Bermuda, my favorite restuarants have changed - but most recently, I've enjoyed M.R. Onions and the Lobster Pot (both in Hamilton), Henry the VIII's on South Shore Road across from the Sonesta hotel, Swizzle Inn, Waterlot for Sunday Brunch (although I've heard rumors that they're not doing a brunch anymore), and the Frog & Onion at Dockyard. If I can be of further help, feel free to email me. Have a great trip.

Dinner at Ariel Sands resort. Eat on the beach and the food is fabulous.

Norma: My wife and I just returned from Bermuda. We stayed at the Hamilton Princess and had a great time! Pam's message hits most of the major attractions. My only suggestion would be to NOT rent a moped, unless you have been to Bermuda before. Bermuda's public transportation is one of the finest anywhere, and costs about $21.00 for a three day pass. The professionals who make a living on the roads (taxi, bus drivers) told us tourists on mopeds have become a real hazzard to themselves and others. Our observations seemed to prove this. Should be a nice time to see the Island. Enjoy!!

Greg

Norma,
My fiancee and I went to Bermuda last summer and loved it. We stayed at Grotto Bay which was the best resort on the island for a reasonable price. We spent most of our time in St. George town, because the people were more down to earth. We did the walking tours of Hamilton and St George found in Fodor's book. They were great. You can skip taking a long bus ride out to the Naval Dockyard, it was a wasted trip. Elbow Beach, Horshoe Bay and Tobacco Bay Beaches are a must see! Have a great time! Amy

Don't miss the Triangle Brewery. Not only lots of beer to try but a truly educational tour, and good take-home hats and shirts. For scenery go to Fort Scaur, Fort Hamilton, Gibbs Hill Lighthouse and Astwood Park. The vistas at those four are, to me, the best in Bermuda. With the exception of the lighthouse they are also very quiet and uncrowded. My wife and I love the motor scooters. Take your time, and stay off the roads during morning and afternoon rush hours. Bermudian drivers are generally very patient and courteous to we tourists. One more thing, stop into some of the hotels. They are uniformly nice and will welcome your visit. You will also get some ideas for your next stay...you will be back. Enjoy!
