Bahamas or Jamaica? Which is better?
Gilberto,

Is there any way that you could begin trip two weeks earlier to capitalize on low season prices in South Africa that will end on September 30th???

Also, if you are intending to spend at least 5 nights in Cape Town, 3 nights on safari, 3 nights in Victoria Falls and 2 nights in Joburg, then it would appear that you have little or no time for the Garden Route. It seems that you have to choose between Vic Falls or The Garden Route if I am understanding your time limitations correctly.

Please clarify whether you have 16 nights to spend in South Africa or whether you have 14 nights to spend in South Africa. Also is mandatory that you spend 2 nights in Joburg. Perhaps you could get by with only a single night in Joburg???

My husband and I and our 11 year old daughter have planned a trip to Nassau, staying at the Radisson Cable Beach resort. My travel agent said they just came up with some good deals at the Wyndham Rose Hall resort in Jamaica. Need advice on both places and also which island is better. We want a place with plenty to do but not over-run with kids. Any info would help.

Hello, I just returned from Nassau last month and I think you will do better going to Nassau. There are alot of things for you to do with the kids. A must is Atlantis do the tour it was wonderful, that resort is amazing. You can also buy a pass and spend the day there. We also swam with the dolphins and that was really neat. There are alot
of excursion you can take with the kids, Zoo's and things like that. I think you would have a much better time there.
Was in Jamaica last yr and not sure how many thing there are for kids to do there.

Sheila: I'd have to agree with Kim, I would choose Nassau.

I've lived in Jamaica and visited Nassau and I prefer the latter. The island is smaller and there are an abundance of activities. It is probably safer than Jamaica and it is easy to figure out your options and to get around.

You'll like the Radisson and Cable Beach. Make sure that you get out to Atlantis on Paradise Island some evening and check out the underground aquarium.

Have fun!

My husband & I have visited the Bahamas twice; the first time we stayed at The Cable Beach Resort & Casino in Nassau, the second time at Atlantis on Paradise Island. Both vacations were absolutely perfect! The natives there are wonderful people and the activities are endless, no matter what your preferences are. Your daughter would get to experience something she would cherish for a lifetime, and so would you and your husband! To sum up the Bahamas in one word: ~Carefree.
Our most recent trip was to Ocho Rios, Jamaica, in February 2000 for our 20th wedding anniversary. Jamaica has mountains, jungles, rivers, all in all beautiful scenery. It is a poor country, so the natives are money-hungry, some resorting to pushing drugs, pushing taxis(whew!),pushing souvenirs, etc...to tourists: and boy do they push. But this was expected, & dealt with with understanding, tact, and a smile; it's just part of their culture. The attitude of "No problem, mon" is a MUST, we had to use it continuously! But this is part of the charm of a beautiful island. We stayed at The Enchanted Gardens and were completely emmersed in the jungle and waterfalls. So for Jamaica, in a word: "Land"
Between the two? Bahamas for no worries or hassles, for the best snorkeling/diving, for a pace that VISIBLY slows down the minute you step off the plane, for the people, for eutopia. Jamaica for something completely different than what you're used to, to experience a culture that is stranglely complex in it's simplicity.
