Bahama hurricanes in June?

Hi, I'm considering a wedding next June in the Lucaya, Bahamas area, have found all the right details, but know little about the weather there that time of year. Everywhere I read says that their hurricane season runs May/June - November!!! But a couple of people I've talked to said it was beautiful and sunny in June. I know there are never any guarantees, but does anyone know what the typical weather there is like in June?

If hurricanes and storms are the norm, I need to change my ideas. I would be crushed that I asked my family and friends to spend the money to go there and then sit around in the rain! (Not to mention, it would make for a depressing wedding). But if we're only talking about a little afternoon rain with the rest of the day normally beautiful, then that's no big deal and fine for my sunset wedding hopes. Thank you for any weather advice you experienced travelers could share!

Less than 5% of hurricanes occur in June. No, there are never any gurantees, but as bets go, it's a relatively safe one.
There are charts of hurricane frequency linked in other posts in the archives here.

I looked around on this site and several people are suggesting GOING to the Bahamas in June/July. Search by June in Bahamas and you should get a lot. Sounds like it will be hot (now that's a surprise) and lots of showers in the afternoon. Exactly as we thought. Also, look at the Yahoo! Bahamas site. They made it sound fine to go in May - July.
I think you should pack the bags girl and reserve the room! Just my thoughts! : )

Yes, hurricane season officially begins in June BUT, think of it this way...we know that winter starts in December but how many blizzards occur that month? Out of the summer season, June is your safest bet to most of the caribbean.

I think your chances are better than average for great weather in June. If it's a truly big deal, get married in May !! (kidding)- besides, rain at a wedding is supposed to be lucky! I had a cyclone the day of my wedding and we're still married (and actually in love) 22 years later. Have a great time!

Hurricanes in June are rare, very rare. I say have the wedding in the Lucaya area. As someone else posted, rain on your wedding IS good luck. Just ask my wife. It rained on our wedding and after almost 24 yrs (of her putting up with me) and still happily together, I'm the luckiest bastard (in love) on the planet.

Thank you so much for the advice and support! After some exhaustive weather research, I've become a lot less attached to needing to do this in June. I would love to back it up to April or May, but unfortunately that becomes a little too early and busy with family graduations, etc. Am thinking mid-November 2005 seems promising...temps are just as warm as June, still good beach weather it seems, but half the rainfall. After reading your posts of such great success with a little rain of luck on the wedding day, I guess a quick shower the day of would be ok Any thoughts on an outdoor Lucaya wedding in mid-Nov. would be appreciated. Thanks again!

Just to clarify the hurricane situation - the Atlantic Hurricane seasn officially runs from June 1 through November 31 with the peak time being September being September 1 to October 15. The further removed from that period the less risk you take. Thus June is relativly hurricane free but in November the risk is somewhat higher. It's a big ocean and the chances of a hurricane forming and tracking over Lucaya during the specific week you are on island are pretty low. The odds are in your if you go in June. It's as good time a time as any for an outdoor wedding in the Bahamas.

I definitely appreciate the advice, and still very much plan to visit Our Lucaya one day. Maybe for an anniversary! But as the exhaustive weather research continued, the hurricanes hit. So we decided that will be a trip for later, when it has a chance to rebuild, and we don't have the cost and coordination of so many others involved. So for the wedding, we have decided to return to where we became engaged...Chateau Elan Resort & Winery, north of Atlanta, GA. It's such a beautiful area, has golf and spa, and now also has the sentimental value. Added bonus: my family can drive there, so not as much airfare required. Cheers!!
