We are looking for good food, nightly entertainment and things to do outside the hotel during the day.
Sandals St. Lucia vs Aruba Radisson or Wyndham.

For what you are wanting, I would go with Aruba.
Lots of nightlife, entertainment and dining choices.
St Lucia is ideal for someone who does not want nightlife and is more interested in active outdoor pursuits or appreciating the island's natural beauty.
I do not care for the food at all- inclusives, or type of entertainment Sandals offers, but others just rave about it.
They are 2 totally opposite islands, with St. Lucia having a much more authentic Caribbean feel to it.

For recreational activities and good food, Aruba offers it all. You may swim or relax around the pools and whirlpools or you may snorkel or scuba dive, windsurf, sail and explore around the island. You will be more satisfied in Aruba. More adventure and the dining is much better.

If you want to get away from the resort, Aruba is it. Four years ago we were there and rented a car for the whole week. You can drive all over that island and never feel exposed like you might in Jamaica. I have also been around a lot in Jamaica, far from the resort north coast, and the difference in comfort level is significant. Not a knock on Jamaica, I love the place and the people tend to be very friendly, but Aruba is a real "get out and explore" island. The drive down to Baby Beach at the south of the island is a case in point.

Jane: I too recommend Aruba for what you want. The water in front of the Wyndham is not as nice as the Radisson. I would recommend the Radisson over the Wyndham if price is not a concern.

i would go with aruba with what you want. you can spend the entire day seeing the island (my husband and i did a jeep safary tour-that was so much fun). you MUST go to baby beach for some snorkeling. and there are casinos, if you feel like gambling at night. the water is very nice (clear). and there are good restaurants outside the resorts too.
st. lucia is a beautiful island (very green-rains a lot). we also did a jeep tour but we thought aruba offered more diversity in what to see (however, st. lucia is definitely more beautiful-very caribbean). the water is not as clear as aruba's though.
enjoy!

I have not been to St. Lucia but my husband and I are thinking about going for our 2003 trip. However, we did just return from Aruba. We had a hard time deciding if we loved Aruba or not! We stayed on Palm Beach and found the area to be too Americanized. Basically it feels like Florida and according to the Manager at the Wyndham it has really been the last 5 years that the American influence has just taken over--case in point: attached to our resort was a Mr. Donut, Subway, Domino Pizza, and around the corner was a Hooters. Every cheap American food chain was there...is this Florida or what? We did love the beautiful Palm Beach (the best we had ever been to) and we did rent a car to see the island (we love adventure). So to summarize--PROS: perfect weather year-round, the best beautiful beach, convenient American food if thats your desire, fun to tour on your own, safe and friendly. CONS: Too American (I don't even like Florida!), Not much to do after you tour the island once or twice, Baby Beach is overshadowed by the Petroleum Refinery , Lack of "Caribbean" music and culture, even a lack of Dutch culture; No great restaurants especially seafood (Sint Maarten / Saint Martin is much better on the food front). Just our opinion...may your sand be soft, the waters blue, and the sunsets plentiful...happy travels!!!
