Appropriate attire for a beach wedding

I am invited to a beach wedding in May on St John, US Virgin Islands. Afterward the reception is at Asolare Restaurant.

I need help picking out clothes for this occasion. I am 63 and I usually like to dress up for weddings. I would not feel comfortable wearing pants. Also I need a jacket for later since I am cold natured.

I forgot to say that I am female, but you probably figured that.

I would say a nice sundress with beach-friendly shoes. Or go barefoot on the beach and have a nicer pair of strappy sandals for the reception. When I planned my Caribbean wedding I wanted to make sure my guests were comfortable, so I think my actual suggestion to them was something like "wear something that you won't mind sweating like a hog in" or better yet, wear something that won't make you sweat at all. Something light and breezy. If the wedding is during the daytime (mine was at sunset) make sure you have sun protection.

I was a matron-of-honor in a wedding in St. Lucia. I agree with EJ. Don't forget the sunscreen on your face either if it is a daytime wedding and your sunglasses.
Both the bride and myself ended up being barefoot during the wedding, as it was impossible to walk across the sand, so don't feeel funny about going barefoot. Everyone else may be, as well.
