Antigua- where to stay

We are planning to visit in January. Has anyone stayed at Sam Lords Castle? Any feedback would be great.

I believe Sam Lord's Castle is in Barbados. When I stayed in Antigua, I stayed at a no-frills place on Dickenson's Bay called Antigua Village. It was clean and reasonable and felt "local" vs. touristy. It's right down the beach from Sandals and has nice restaurants within walking distance. The beach in front of the property isn't very deep, but was adequate and the water was wonderful. I'd stay there again. I'm going to Barbados in June and want to check out Sam Lord's Castle. I've heard a lot about it and seen several magazine shoots where the models were at the resort. Good luck!

We have traveled twice to Antigua and have stayed at Sandals Antigua which is terrific--long white sand beach, activities, very good choice of dining, wonderful rooms/suites, spa, many pools. Also have toured some properties and were not impressed with some of them--Pineapple Beach Club etc. Sam Lords Castle is in Barbados and does not have a great beach so I've read--I would check with Fodors Mini Guides online for more info on Antigua and Barbados. Worked with a lady who went to Royal Antiguan in Antigua and had a great time, but not on luxury scale mostly for budget minded. If you go to Antigua go to Shirley Heights on Sunday--steelband music, lots of people and rum punches--high on top of a mountain looking down on the ocean with an amazing sunset--incredible!

My husband and I stayed at Cocobay last July for a week. It was our first trip to the Caribbean. The resort was wonderful: low key, good food, nice staff. Small enough to get to know people if you wanted to or be left to yourselves. I recommend it highly.

I too was looking into vacationing at Antigua but decided with St. John. However, one place that really looked intriguing to me was Galley Bay. Its an AI but I heard a lot of great reviews about it. Maybe check that resort at as well.
