Hi Carolred:

Yes, I agree totally.

I took a guess at the .5 micron size estimate. I will have to unpack my travel bag to see what the actual size is. It was the best I could get. The replaceable ceramic element is far better than charcoal. Just scrape it clean periodically and back-flush it.

Have the Hep A-B shots. View them as cheap insurance.

Love street food. It is what is really good about a culture. I also carry Imodium and Kaopectate just in case. But I didn't want to get fully into a medicinal what to carry while travelling extensively in the third world. Antibiotics, charcoal (universal antidote) etc. That is a whole other thread. Thanks for your input however.

Steve

Just like to say that I'm very appreciative of the information each of you is passing on to all who read this forum. Personally, I'm probably being overly cautious about the upcoming Cuba trip, concerning food, drink, & safety, but the more one knows ahead of time, the more one can forget about everything and thoroughly enjoy oneself. Thanks again.
Hi Kathy:

Just wanted to say You're Welcome and to note that having a healthy dose of caution to temper the excitement of foreign travel is a good thing.

You can't go crazy and end up scaring yourself, but good old fashioned common sense and some research in advance can make the world of difference to your enjoyment of a foreign culture. I'd say you're on the right track so go ahead and enjoy yourself.

Jut a little further note. Over the years I have developed a computerized listing of what to take when I travel. Items are added to the list, or deleted based upon my experiences. When I decide to take off, I just print out the list and work through it checking off each item. Sounds elaborate, but this way I never end up with that nagging feeling that I have forgotten something.

I also have a seperate list of "Things to Do" before the trip. Same idea and this also keeps track of vacinations, passport and other things that expire.

If I have done the work before I go, then I have nothing to do but relax on the vacation.... and hopefully that is the point of all this.

Have fun
Steve

Steve,
A real mojito is a whole lime sliced thinly with simple syrup and rum served over crushed ice with a mint sprig. The lazy way is lime juice with a lime wedge floating in it.
To XXX

What is a real Mojito?

I dare say that a Mojito consumed at an establishment in Cuba must by definition be "real". I have had a modest few at various establishments in Havana and environs, and no two are exactly alike. So rhetorically I ask you, "what is real"? Your definition; my definition; a Cuban recipe?

If your only thought is to question one variant of a Mojito that I have posted, then may I respectfully suggest that you get on an airplane, fly to Havana, go to The Bodeguita Del Medio and ask the bartender to make YOUR Mojito YOUR way. I would love to be there to see HIS reaction.

Steve

Well...that certainly begs a question. The first time I experienced a Mojito was in the Myan Riviera 2 years ago. LOVED IT!!!

Now I'm perplexed after reading this thread. I am almost disappointed. But wait...it is possible that my Mojito's sampled in Mexico were in fact possibly concocted by a transplanted Cuban. What are the odds???? All would suddenly be well in my world.

I'm bouncin' down to Cuba in March and will certainly be in search of the ULTIMATE MOJITO!!!

In any event..I'll do my best to solve the mystery.

The finer points of Mojito's and Prostitution all on one forum...(yeah I know..diff. thread)....all I know is I love the net and thank-you you all for the entertainment...err...i mean...insight.

(WORLD TRAVEL ROCKS)

Even if it's a bad Mojito, the more you drink, the less you notice.

Steve

Memo To: John Ashcroft
RE: Arrest Leslie NOW

General John,
See the email address of Leslie. It is clear she is not a loyal American as she wants to sneak into Cuber. Please arrest her and her whole family, all of her friends, her pets, and her mailman. Add all their names to the new Total Information System database and then send them all to the only part of Cuber they belong in and that is to our prison, where they can spend the rest of their lives with the Taliban we have locked up there.

Do this ASAP.

Thanks,

GW
