Alternative to Sunset at the Plams
I found Sunset at the Palms on trip advisor and it looks fabulous. My husband and I are travelling to Jamaica (or somewhere in the Carribean) this July. However the SATP is not available for 5 or 6 nights. It is only available for 4. We could stay there for 4 nights and somewhere else for 1-2 but I really don't like moving around.
What is a good alternative to this resort? We are looking for nice rooms - ones that you would love to stay in all day (if not for the view and grounds outside) preferably with a porch, chairs hammock, etc. While wanting plush rooms, we do not need a TV - would prefer not to have one. A/C is a plus but not necessary. I have also looked at the regular rooms at Half Moon and the Ritz. Both these properties look nice, but I would like the intimacy of a smaller place and would like to have a more private, freestanding room or at least one that is not in a larger building. Budget is $200-300/night ($400-500 if all-inclusive). While food is important to us, I do not require a 5-star restaurant but good quality. I would like a resort that has restaurant(s) on site, so if we chose not to, we wouldn't have to leave the resort at all. I would prefer not to have to dress up but the "resort casual" (pants, collared shirt at night) seems to be fairly common among the nicer places. We do not mind looking presentable (no swimsuits or jeans), but my huband does like to wear leather sandals with khakis and/or a nice non-collared shirt. Dress code is ok as long as the overall atmosphere is fairly relaxed and not too stuffy.

First off you will not have to worry about a dress code in Jamaica...capital of casual mon...second I would highly recommend avoiding All Inclusive's and looking into Country Country, Rockhouse, or Tensing Pen. These places are amazingly beautiful with restaurants on sight that are delicious and do not have dress codes. Finally, I highly recommend exploring Negril...it is an amazing and beautiful place that should be seen from different adventures and not just seen from your porch, although at any of thoise three hotels, it would be easy to never want to leave such beautiful scenery!

Keep in mind I have never been, but I'm leaning toward going to Sunset at the Palms for a honeymoon in December and it ended up coming down to it and Jake's in St. Elizabeth. Like SATP, I liked it because it is a more intimate, smaller property with rooms/villas that seemed more private and geared towards a very relaxing getaway. I think the company that owns them also has a more expensive place in Negril, but I'm not sure. Obviously take this with a grain of salt since I've never been, but just throwing it out there if you want to take a look.

On the cliffs...Catcha Falling Star has rooms (actually cottages) that are as you describe. The Caves or Tensing Pen have a similar feel.
On the beach, check into Idle Awhile, Beach House Villas and Nirvana. Only the latter doesn't have a restaurant onsite but has several good ones just steps away. Not sure if Moondance Villas fits the budget but consider that for a beach stay as well...includes a private chef, bartender, etc.
