Air Jamaica - Big Problem
Flew Air Jamaica and it was indeed no problem. You want bad service? No problem. A dirty pillow? No problem. Drinks poured out of big bottles not individual ones like normal airlines? No problem. Want to pay for wine and have 1/2 a glass while the guy next to you gets a whole one? No problem. Want to be promised a certain seat only to be in a different one when you get on the plane? You guessed it, not a problem. Want your shoes to stick to the bathroom floor because it's so dirty? That's no problem either! Enjoy!

WAAAAAAAAAAAAA......did you stop to think you are dealing with a foreign airline from a third world country and they do things a little differently? All the points you have brought up are valid and have all happened to me at one time or another on US CARRIERS. Grow up and get a grip.

I can sympathize, we had the same experience with Air Jamaica--we got up to the counter and they gave our front seats away that we had confirmed before we left--said there was a computer glitch, yeh right! Of all the many flights we have taken with other airlines that was the only time our seats were given away. Not only that but they gave us seats in back of the plane which I hate. Just didn't like the airline it was very unorganized.

The price was exactly the same as American Airlines and flew the airline to get into the "spirit" of the trip. If it was a "third world" discount price would maybe agree with you but it wasn't. Am I glad to have landed safely? OF COURSE, but this is a travel advice forum so thought I'd save someone a lot of aggravation and disappointment. If you don't have to fly this airline-don't. Pay the same price and travel comfortably with a flight crew that's professional and friendly and not rude and seemingly unhappy to have to bother with anything.

It's a shame you had such an unhappy experience. Maybe we've just been lucky, but we've flown AJ probably 8 times in the last 6 years and always had good experiences. As a matter of fact, I've gone out of my way in order to fly with AJ. We aways prefer direct flights out of O'hare in Chicago.

Hey Paul-glad it didn't happen to you. I flew out of JFK and American goes nonstop to Mo Bay too. If it were a question of direct or not I may have felt better. I've had good and bad flights on other airlines as well but I just have to agree with Twila and feel that it was unorganized and unprofessional.

Thanks for the tip 'disgusted'.<BR>I always appreciate warnings such as yours.<BR>To those of you who criticized disgusted for complaining, your priorities are pretty screwed up.<BR><BR>1) this is a travel forum for discussing travel issues, including problems on AirJamaica.<BR>2) as a consumer, you have the power to affect the quality of the services available to you.<BR>Avoid supporting underperforming vendors and they'll go away. Support those that provide good service and the market stays strong and maintains good quality.

Disgusted and Reality; An oxymoron, huh?<BR>Sounds like a bad experience, indeed. Have you fired off a letter to the company, yet? I would. I don't imagine that even an airline from a third-world country wants to get a reputation like that.(esp. in these tough economic times for airlines).<BR><BR>As some of those above have said, maybe I have been lucky, but the one time I had the opportunity to fly AirJamaica, it was all I expected and would have asked for. Check-in, the flight and deplaning was very much a "No problem, Mon" deal for us. We will gladly fly AirJamaica again. In fact, I spend some part of each day working on our next trip to Jamaica, including a flight on AirJamaica. <BR><BR>May all your future flights be as you wish!<BR><BR>L

I'm another frequent traveler that won't give AJ my business. We flew them a few years back and had 2 major issues:<BR>1) the aircraft was filthy . . . not just some trash bits here and there, I mean scurvy looking. The urine odor from the bathrooms was so strong that even 6 rows away from it you can smell it - hopefully this was an old plane they were going to be retiring, but man, it was DISGUSTING<BR>2) We paid $200 for first class upgrade vouchers (don't know if they still offer this program) which they sell based on availability of unsold first class seats. Awesome deal. Unfortunately, they charged us the $200 in Mo Bay at the counter, but when we got on the plane our seats were "taken" and we were seated in coach. That wasn't even a big deal. The kicker was that AJ wouldn't refund the $200. It took me 6 months of back and forth w/ AJ and Amex to finally get it off my bill for good. <BR><BR>Never Again.

We were going to take the trip from MoBay to Ocho Rios and the plane that was supposed to take us (a 727 or similar) was down for mechanical problems. So they walked us out to the runway on a turbo prop to a plane that seated 19 passengers. They were loading the luggage on and literally stuffing it to the gils. I asked the woman in charge how much weight can the plane carry. She said 19 passengers. I said "What about all the luggage?" She replied, "Oh, you're right." She signaled to the baggage guy and he starts taking stuff off! I couldn't believe it! Needless to say, we didn't get on that plane and took the tour of the island instead. I just thought of Aaliyah and decided I didn't want to die on my honeymoon! I guess their standards are different!

Sorry to all who had bad experiences with AJ. Pleased to say so far (8 times) I've not had anything at all like you described. Outside of the long lines at Sangster when leaving, I've had good experiences.<BR>And yardies is right, whoever told you there was a 727 to Ochie was a Samfi man, fa troot, mon. Only small planes can get in there.

You are all a bunch of ganja smokin; cry babies...so you had one flight that was not up to snuff. So What??? Get over it. I have had bad flights on every airline I have flown on, and that is many. Everyone has it happen ever so often...grin and bear it you blubbering cry babies. Get on with it. Now if you can honestly say that you have flown an airline umpteen times and EVERY TIME it was bad, dirty, nasty, stinky, etc, then you have a good reason to bitch. For one time forget about it. Cry babies that is all you are. Suckas suck.

Well, "yahoo", I visited Calcutta one time and it was filthy, smelly and disgusting.<BR><BR>But according to your logic, maybe that was just a freak accident.<BR>I'm being unreasonable for generalizing that this is the way Calcutta is all the time.<BR><BR>Yeah, right.<BR><BR>Get a clue.<BR><BR>

I have flown Air Jamaica a few times- the direct "champagne flight". I have to say we were extremely pleased with the service (I normally travel US Air and American) and felt the cleanliness was adequate. They serve free Red Stripe beer and Champagne (or mimosas) in coach(nothing to write home about but a nice touch). I would say that the food was about the same as other coach flights I have taken. <BR><BR>I'm not sure why "disgusted" didn't kindly say to the attendant "miss (or sir)- this is really only a half glass of wine. Do you mind topping it off?"<BR><BR>All I can say is I'm glad "disgusted" is not my travel companion.

I just returned from an AJ flight and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was clean, decent food, friendly/efficient stews, on time, etc. The only time my seat was confirmed and not available was on Air New Zealand and I paid a lot more money than I did on AJ. I've had major problems with American and so far am very happy with AJ. Happy vacationing!

I flew this airline several years ago, had a similiar experience. I can also add to it. Flight attendents with asses so big and wide that they constantly bumped into folks as they walked up and down the aisle. This airline was scary at best and probably one of the worst I have ever flown on. At least most US carriers have weight restrictions for the employees. These attendents would be buying two seats if they were flying on Southwest airlines. Yes, I had a good time in Jamiaca but once was enough. There are much better and safer islands to visit...
