Advice on U.S Virgin Islands

Hi everyone,
My fiance and I are still deciding where to go for our honeymoon. Originally we thought about Hawaii, but it is so $$$$. I thought the US Virgin Islands would be just as pretty and allot affordable- is that true?

Wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions on the US virgin Islands?? I have heard questionable things about the safety of St.Thomas vs St.John but wasn't sure??? Also, do you know of any affordable travel agents or sites to book through? Thanks for all of your help!!!

I've been to both. Although I don't really care for St. Thomas (too touristy due to the cruise ships). Some of the resorts are very nice though. I love St. John and Virgin Gorda. I found it safe. Try Gallows Point condos. We met many honeymooners who were staying there and said they would definitely come back. Also, depending on time of year, these islands can also be quite pricey. It's pretty average to still pay $500-700 for roundtrip airfare to St. Thomas but the ferry ride to St. John is very inexpensive.

Theresa
St. John is gorgeous--lots of hiking and snorkeling. I agree that St. Thomas is very touristy because of the cruise ships, but it is still pretty too. As for safety, just keep your wits about you and act like you would in any major city and you'll be fine.

As for booking, check all of the websites you can. You'd be surprised how much prices can vary. Look at travelocity, expedia, orbitz, hotelreservation network, etc.

Hawaii can be a longer flight depending on where you live, but offers advantages of less crime, higher standard of living, nicer resort seleection and better quality of hotels/restaurants, and more varied scenry and activities vs the BVI's and USVI's.
Downsides are the beaches generally aren't quite as nice or varied, and the water isn't as pretty as the VI's.

Be very careful about travel agents. Sometimes they can get you good deals/upgrades, most f the time you can do as well booking on your own.
Feel free to come here for extensive advice and tips.

I've been to both and they each have pro's and cons. USVI isn't really that much cheaper than Hawaii if you really compare the prices, other than airfare. If you're set on St. Thomas or St. John you might want to look at biddingfortravel.com, a site about using priceline to get discounted reservations. Pretty accurate information. Tortola in BVI, especially Cane Garden Bay may also be an option.
