4x4 necessary to explore

We are going to Aruba in October and we like to explore every inch of an island. Do we need a 4x4 or can we just rent a car?
Thanks...

Definitely get a 4x4 if you want to explore the less travelled areas, such as the north coast and the National Park. You will be glad you did.

To drive to the Natural Pool (a must see) you need a 4x4. However, you can drive to the end of the paved road and pay $5 or $10 per person for a ride to it.

Any Caribbean island is just a LOT more fun to drive around in a 4x4.

A Jeep is necessary. I'll never forget seeing a couple waiting for help after their car got stuck on the "road" in the national park.

It's not necessary to rent a jeep to see Aruba. The natural pool can be reached by horseback. Jeeps often have nowhere to lock anything.

If you don't rent a 4x4, then you won't be able to explore the north coast and the national park -- some of most interesting areas of the island.
