Hey there....
Here is my line-up for next month:
Flying Fishbone (seating is on beach-www.flyingfishbone.com)
Marandi (new-www.marandiaruba.com)
Madame Janettes (www.madamejanette.com)
Avallone's (www.avallones.com)
Ventanas DelMar (www.tierradelsol.com/restaurant/index.shtml
Some I have eaten at or my family has. Others I have just read rave reviews about. I have done a lot of research and read many reviews.
As far as transportation, cabs are pretty easy and fairly reasonable. I have been to Aruba 3 times and have only rented a car on 1 trip for 1 day. If you decide to do a daily rental, use your car for Flying Fishbone as it is quite a few miles past the airport. My guess is that the cab fare would be about $20 each way, but I am not sure.
Sorry to say, I don't think much of the sightseeing in Aruba. Partially because I can't part with the beach, and partially because their really isn't much to see. From my past experience, maybe a boat ride, or possibly horseback riding excursion to the natural pool. Please don't misinterpret because having been to many islands, my FAVORITE is Aruba!
Have fun and let me know if you have additional questions.
Kim

For dining I would recommend: La Trottoria el Faro Blanco (lighthouse), with sunset reservations. www.arubadining.com/latrattoria/ My husband and I also loved Bella Luna. www.arubadining.com/pavarotti/ My husband loved Amazonia, it's great if you eat a lot of meat (which I don't).
For transportation, you have a few choices. Depending on where you are staying, you may be able to walk to a number of restaurants. You can rent a vehicle to drive around. You can take the bus. You can taxi around, which is what we did. (Taxi rates are fixed, and we thought they were reasonable.)
As for sightseeing, there is the Alto Vista Chapel, the Natural Bridge, Caves, Casibari Rock Formations, Gold Mill Ruins, Aloe Factory, and possibly could be other sights to see. There is Arikok National Park (see it on horseback or by Jeep, there is no other way). The Natural Pool is located within Arikok National Park. We took a great horseback ride through Arikok National Park to the Natural Pool through Rancho Daimari, which we would highly recommend. www.visitaruba.com/ranchodaimari/
If you are interested in snorkeling, DePalm Island has the best snorkeling we have seen. www.depalm.com We also enjoyed our snorkel trip with Roberto's Private Snorkeling, where we had the entire boat to ourselves, so we controlled where we went and how long we were there. We went out on their earliest trip, the other snorkelers were not out yet, so we had the waters to ourselves. www.angelfire.com/sports/snorkeling
There are tons of things to do in Aruba. The best of which, in my opinion, was to swim and float in the calm warm waters on Palm Beach.
For more information on Aruba, check out the following websites: www.visitaruba.com/guestarea.bboard.mv? AND www.aruba-travelguide.com/bulletinboard AND www.aruba-bb.com AND www.arubatourism.com
Have a great trip!

For sure, Madame Janettes and El Gaucho...other than that...avoid the island jeep tour..I had rather be shot than go thru that again..the natural bridge is cool as is the natural pool...other than that, there is not a lot to see in Aruba. It is more industrial than I had imagined and not as posh as I was hoping..Overall, it is ok but not near what some of the other islands have to offer...i.e., snorkeling, beaches, etc....

Hi I just returned from Aruba and the restaurants were fabulous! I agree with most of the above postings-Chalet Suisse and El Gaucho were my favorites too. We also used Robertos(located in between the Holiday Inn and the Marriott) for snorkeling. We had Nick and he was great. You will have a wonderful time in Aruba. We stayed at the Marriott and thought it was a very nice hotel. Go to aruba-bb.com for a ton of information on Aruba!

ANother one to try not already mentioned is Papiamiento. Great seafood choices.
we didn't have a car our 1st trip and rented a jeep the 2nd. my husband really enjoyed driving through the sand dunes like a 16 yr old kid..... It also gave us some flexibility about just hopping in the car when we didn't feel like walking!
Otherwise, the "sights" are limited and were mentioned in the other posts. But the beaches are great!

I have to agree with the other suggestions for restaurants -- particularly Chalet Suisse, El Gaucho, and Madame Jeanette. Also, one that my husband and I LOVE is Pasion Bodega (http://www.pasionbodega.com/). They have wonderful food and the best wine selection we saw in Aruba. The staff are also very warm, welcoming, and pleasant. We were just there last week and were amazed they aren't more busy. My husband had the grouper special and I had a delicious teriaki shrimp. We also had great sushi.
