1st time 2 nassau need advise
don't know where to stay on the island. or surrounding areas, if they're better. first time. Going may 11th-14th. would like less crowded non family orientaded ares (no offense) we're a couple. just want beach and possibly a rate of rooms running no more than $180 per night. from past experience if you have any sugg. they would b greatly appreciated.

Nicholas; have you considered the Bahamian Outer Islands? Sounds like you may enjoy the friendly, outer islands better than in the big city of Nassau. Been to Abaco, Eleuthera, Exuma, San Salvador, and Great Guana Cay off of Abaco. Beautiful, isolated and pristine atmosphere that no place on Paradise Island and Nassau can offer. Robert

Nicholas, If you are watching the pocketbook, the Nassau Beach Hotel is a good value with a great beach. For a few more dollars, the Radisson, just two doors down is a good choice. There is a casino in between at the Marriott, but I wouldn't choose it first as a place to stay. Just my preference. <BR> <BR>We were there last May and the weather was perfect every day. Temps in the low 80's during the day and 70's at night. The hotels are on Cable Beach which is a great location on New Providence. The buses run right outside all day. <BR> <BR>We found a package for the Nassau Beach for $440.00 for three nights including air fare (Cleveland-Nassau) for both of us. You should be able to find something similar. Good luck.

I would also second the idea of one of the out islands. Much less touristy, very relaxing and great beaches. <BR> <BR>Our favorite is Harbour Island, 3 miles of the most beautiful beach you will ever find. <BR> <BR>Try the www.briland.com board for info on hotels and rates for on an off season. <BR> <BR>Our place to stay is Runaway Hill Club, need I say more, small and intimate and just about the price you are looking for. www.runawayhill.com. We will be there next month and I CAN'T WAIT. <BR> <BR>Have a great trip.

Hi <BR> <BR>I enjoyed Orange Hill Beach Inn, a charming less expensive hotel (about $120/night) in West New Providence that's quite popular with Europeans. The beach here is not at all crowded, but if you wish, you can go into Nassau (8 miles) on the jitneys ($0.75-$1) from here during the day. The crowd ranges from some families, but also diving clubs, and friends on holiday. At night, the bar is lively and visitors seem to mingle with each other, telling diving stories, lobstering stories. Proprietress Judy is very warm and gives the place a very homey B&B-type ambience. I've been back & forth to Nassau for over 20 years and stayed in just about all the hotels....I would say that either Nassau Beach Hotel or the Radisson would be great. Great beaches and not alot of children. The Old British Colonial is no longer that but the Hyatt Resort...in which while they were renovating, my cousin & I stayed there for 5 days and a fire broke out due to eletrical...So, please dont stay at the British Colonial/Hyatt...no good.Good luck!

TO reply to Sandra, the frequent travel to the Bahamas, please be advised that the British Colonial is not the Hyatt but is now the Hilton and may I say that the hotel looks better than ever and that most of the money that was spent on the refurbishment looks like it went into the bathrooms( they are very nice) but the rates there are CRAZY!!!!!! I stayed there on a corp. rate and it was still over $200 per night. Definitely not worth the money.

I must agree that the Old "BC" as the Bahamamians refer to to newly renovated British Colonial, still has soul and doesn't appear to be artificially planted in Nassau. It's right on Bay Street, a 40 second walk to the straw market, and has 9 acres in the back with a beautiful pool and beach. You can watch the cruise ships docking at the wharf and snorkel off her beach. Many caribbean reef fish are there, by the breakwall to the left, in only 5 feet of water. The grounds were kept lush and tropical. It still resembles the history of Nassau, being the first hotel on New Providence for the rich and famous in the early 1900's. Robert
