What to do in Winnipeg?

Is it worth a stop in Winnipeg in July - or should we just keep driving?

We think it's worth a stop!! Winnipeg is 225 miles from our city and we go there every other summer for a three-day weekend.

We like downtown -- Portage Place with shops and IMAX, Eaton's multi-level department store, etc. -- and "The Forks" markets where the city's rivers meet. It's a city of great food!!

One problem for you, though. Next summer Winnipeg is hosting the Pan Am Games, and I think July is going to be packed with that. You will need to check when the Games are on.

I would not waste my time stopping there. There are many more interesting cities to visit. I will cast my vote for Montreal. Even Toronto would be a better choice. Shopping is shopping and you can do that in any city.

I lived in Winnipeg for over 51 years, but moved to the Okanagan a year and a half ago(against my better judgement). There isn't a day goes by that I don't miss my home town.

The summers are warm and filled with festivals and events. Whiteshell Provincial Park is only 125 KM east if you like fishing, boating and beautiful scenery. The winters may be cold, but they're bright and sunny. If you enjoy skiing or snowmobiling, there's lots of snow as well.

Cities like Montreal and Toronto are to big and impersonal for my taste.
I spent a week visiting my sister in Winnipeg. I travelled from London (UK) and I should have paid for my sister to visit me! There are many better places to visit. Tijuana, for one - and that was pretty ghastly!
