Hi, He is referring to Tofino on the west coast of Vancouver Island. It is a spectacular place to watch the winter storms. If you can afford it, book into the Wickaninnish Inn. Otherwise , stay at a less expensive resort closer to Tofino. Tofino is about a 3 hour twisty slow drive from Nanaimo, and you can get to Nanaimo directly from Vancouver, or take the ferry to Victoria for a visit before driving up island. You can also fly to tofino from Vancouver.

Tofino is the place on Vancouver island to go to watch the storms, and there is no better place to stay than the Wickanninish Inn. All rooms (about 45) face the ocean, and the swell during storms is so dramatic, it is breathtaking! The food at the inn is wonderful, the rooms good, and the service is terrific! We stayed there in Oct. 21, just at the beginning of storm watching season.

The inn also has an aveda spa.

My boyfriend and I have gone there every November/December for the past 3 years. It is an amazing spot - spectacular and rugged. The Wickaninnish is nice but somewhat overrated and overpriced in my opinion. Most people I know go to Pacific Sands Resort and go back there over and over again. MacKenzie Lodge is also a very nice place to stay. Both have websites. I don't have their sites but they're easily found through a search engine.

Having stayed at the Wickaninnish Inn just last week, I can tell you that this place is everything everyone says about it...secluded, special and service oriented. All rooms have fireplaces and views of the rough ocean or beach; our room even had a two person jacuzzi. The food at the Pointe is excellent, though pricey. My favorite meal is breakfast at the Pointe; watching the sunrise over Chesterman Beach is simply beautiful. We spent several days just lounging around, reading and resting in our room and the spa. There are many hikes around Tofino and nearby towns so lots to do if you want to do something. But just watching the surf was enough for us. And rates during the winter at the Wick is very reasonable especially for what you get. Check it out at http://www.wickinn.com.
