Weather in BC later October

We are considering a trip to BC, Vancouver, Victoria, Whistler beginning Oct 24...
I know this isn't peak season, but will the weather be bearable for site seeing? We would also like to kayak. Too cold or windy?

I live in Vancouver and honestly wouldn't recommend that you pick the end of October to visit.

At that time, it is entirely possible that in Vancouver it will rain every day and visibility will be close to nil. It is also possible that it will be nice one or more days, but it's really hard to guarantee that. It would be a shame to come here and not be able to see anything since the scenery is really what makes the city stand out. The kayak rental places will be open so you'll be able to do that if the weather is ok.

You should have better luck in Victoria, but I will leave that to someone who knows the island better than I.

At Whistler, it will have started to snow regularly on the mountains. The sightseeing gondola will be closed as of this weekend so you won't be able to get up top. You can still see the village but it too may be rainy.

Sorry to pour cold water on the idea - it's a great place to visit but the weather can make a big difference!

Although Cat123 is generally correct it should be said that Vancouver weather is generally unreliable and while October is a transition month, (i.e. comes in like a lamb goes out like a lion), it's just as likely to be cool and breezy with sunshine as it is to be socked in.

It's actually Whistler that will be the least pleasant at that time - probably too cold and inclement for hiking or Kayaking but not enough if any snow to start skiing. If the weather forecast is lousy for when you're planning to visit Whistler take a pass this time. You won't need hotel reservations because it's the absolute slowest time of year and yoiu can make your deal when you arrive.

Victoria is statistically sunnier than Vancouver but the end of October is also very unreliable. The only thing you can be sure of at that time of year for Vancouver and Victoria is that it won't snow. Virtually everything else - including lovely weather - is a possability.

If you can visit our corner of the world at a different time of year it's probably advisable but if this is a once in ageneration opportunity go for it and keep your fingers crossed.

Last year I was in Whistler at the end of October. It was very cold but the sun was shining. No skiing of course. Kayaking would probably not be something you'd want to do. I didn't mind being there at all. Vancouver and Victoria can be sunny or wet but then my philosophy is that there is "no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes."
Due to my business I travel in the off season all the time. I never expect the weather to be at it's best so when the sun shines it's a bonus. If you're looking for beach weather don't travel at this time of year. If you want to enjoy the scenery, galleries, museums, etc. then travel.

Personally, I would have no qualms about visiting then. Weather is a gamble but there are fewer tourists cluttering up the place.
