You don't need to stay in PH. It's cute for an afternoon or a few hours. Cabbagetown is an OK area to stay in. It's mostly lovely restored Victorians. It's a neighbourhood. Off the beaten track from main sites, but right in the heart of downtown (slightly east) but am not sure what your interests are. It's bordered by not so nice main streets with places you might not want to go. In other words not great for strolling or shopping. Cabbagetowners LOVE their area so they might disagree with me. Don't know that B&B. Best way from airport is a taxi/air limo right outside the terminal. They're all flat rate and gov't regulated and surpervised by a commissionaire on site, just get in line. Should be abut $38-44 CDN to heart of city. Email me if you have more qus.

I don't live in Cabbagetown, but we usually plan on a couple of walks through Cabbagetown during the spring and summer. Some wonderful old homes - some huge Victorian houses and other little cottage type homes - and beautiful gardens in the area. There's one street - I think it's actually called Wellesley Cottages - that we usually like to check out when we're walking. Many of the homes have heritage plaques on them. They have a house tour and big neighbourhood festival in September which is always very successful. There actually are some cute little stores and restaurants in the area as well.

You could take the train to and from Port Hope, all in one day.

Or drive there and back in one day, with no problem. It's only about an hour and a half from downtown.

People in Port Hope work in ttoronto and get back and forth in a day all the time.

I don't understand why a tourist would stay in Cabbagetown, but as reported earlier, people who live there love their neighborhood.

Airport travel bargain depends on the number of people and how much of a bargain you need. For teen travellers with no money, take the regular Toronto Transit Commission buses, and spend an hour and a half getting downtown.

for one person, take the big express buses found outside the terminals.

For three, take a limo and split the cost.

for two people, check at the airport. Buses and limos leave fromthesame area, so you can compare the prices. If the bus takes you to the right destination, it can be a bargain. If you need a ten dollar cab ride after you get off the bus, a limo all the way can be cheaper.

BAK

Q: In the middle going to Port Hope for a day.Is PH close enough to get there in the morning or needs a night stay?

Close enough fora day trip. On it's not intereesting enough for a day trip either. Not much there, really.

Q: Is Cabaggetown a nice place to stay in?

NO! Attempts at gentrification failed because of the winos and street people. It's not dangerous, just not pleaseant.

Q: Heard anything about the Mulberry tree B and B?

No idea.

Q: Best way best value to get to-from airport?

The cheapest way is to take the GO bus from terminal 2 to York Mills subway ($2.75 CDN) and then the subway downtown ($2.25 CDN.) The Airporter to downtown is a better bet. They keep raising ther price, but last I recall it was about $10-12.

THANK YOU SO MUCH AND SORRU FOR SO MANY QUESTIONS!!!

Hey Claudia,

Your post is way old, but I'll put this here for future searchers. My boyfriend and I stayed at the Mulberry Tree B&B in Toronto. It was a mixed stay -- first off the bat, we walk in and find that our room is unusable for somereason (very shady reason) and we will be lodged at the owner's son's place several (3) block away. After 4.5 hours of travelling, this is not what we wanted to hear. Then, we find that her son's B&B is unfinished - no AC, and wreaks of paint. They demanded cash on the spot and made absolutely no apologies. In fact, they seems annoyed at us for asking questions. There was no other option, so we stay one night. The second night, we moved to the main B&B. We had to pack up and be at the original B&B at 9 am to get breakfast --again very annoying to lug our stuff around yet again. From then on the stay was nice. The food on both mornings was excellent, fresh tasty breads and muffins, fresh brewed tea for us, ripest fruits and delicious entrees. The location was great - just 3 blocks from the subway and walking distance to a major street with shopping and restaurants, but if I had to do it again, I'd go with a B&B where customer service is not so surly. The owners' attitudes might have ruined our stay were it not for our determination to have a great time (and we did).

Johanna
