Victoria Hotels: The Magnolia or Laurel Point Inn

If you had to choose between these two hotels, which one would you go for? I can have a free continental breakfast and a corner room at The Magnolia or a junior suite at the Laurel Point Inn. Has anyone got an opinion??

Those are the two hotels I like best in Victoria...and it's hard to choose between them! But I'd probably go for the Laurel Point, for the water view and the park-like setting (it's also a little ways out of the busy downtown area, but still within walking distance). Also, the junior suites have really nice bathrooms ;-).

Jeanne:

I've stayed at both. Either one is great. The Laurel Point is on the water while the Magnolia is among the buildings of downtown. You can't go wrong on either....but prefer the Laurel Point.

Scott

Laurel Point, no question in my mind. I travel a bit and it's one of my favorites. Just make sure to get a suite with a balcony facing the harbor. The bathrooms are wonderful.

we stayed one night at Lurel point last year. It is a beautiful position but I have to say the service was terrible and the staff attitude poor. It felt like it was not being managed. A shame for such a beautiful hotel.

Just returned from Victoria and 3 days at the Laurel Point Inn. It would get my vote provided you have a balcony, harbor view.
I did not experience any problems with the staff

Laurel Point gets my vote as well. I didn't have a problem with staff/service. I thought they were most accomodating and cordial.

You could also check out the Royal Scot. My daughter just came back and said it was wonderful. I haven't stayed there so I cannot comment personally but I hear that it is quite economical and very, very nice.

We stayed at the Laurel Point in March. We enjoyed the view and the room was O.K., if slightly run down. It's an older hotel (looks like 70s decor) and really seems to cater to corporations and business conventions. Lots of large groups there.

I must say that after staying in more modern hotels, the Laurel Point was kind of a throw back. There were no do-it-yourself room amenties (like a frig or microwave) and everything cost extra.

We noticed that a nice hotel was under construction right next door, and we decided that we'd check into it the next time we visit Victoria. I want to say that it was a Marriott, but I can't remember for sure now. Looked like it was going to have great views and it will obviously be brand new. You might check the Marriott web site and see.

Thank you so much, everybody! Thought I should report back that we booked a junior suite at the Laurel Point and LOVED our beautiful room. The junior suites are all in the new wing of this hotel and we couldn't have been more pleased. I suspect the older wing isn't as special. This room was spacious and lovely, with an Asian feel, including soji screens and cotton kimonos. The view from our balcony was stunning. It looked out across the inner harbour toward the Empress and the Houses of Parliament, so at night we enjoyed thousands of twinkly lights. The hotel was quiet, the bed was comfy, and the bathroom was huge. Truly, a nice place to stay in Victoria.

We stayed at the Laurel Point last year and it was wonderful. The room was decorated in japanse style. we had a balcony overlooking the harbour which was very pretty especially at night. We found the service excellent and the bathroom to die for! Would certainly recommended it to anyone.
