Victoria Clipper - a pleasant trip?
My husband and I are planning our first trip to the Northwest, and thought we might like to travel from Seattle to Victoria on the Victoria Clipper. Is this a good idea? Also, any recommendations for a nice B and B in Victoria, as well as must-see sights, would be appreciated. Thanks!

Sorry but your heading made me laugh out loud. My sister said about the third of the passengers were sick on the trip she took and she will never take the Clipper again. It's apparently not uncommon that the ride is rough, but it must be ok some of the time.

Here are some B&B's that are close to downtown, although there are many others:
Haterleigh House
Holland House Inn
The Beaconsfield (has had good reviews here)
Abigail's (by a busy street)

http://www.haterleigh.com/
http://www.hollandhouse.victoria.bc.ca/
http://www.beaconsfieldinn.com/
http://www.abigailshotel.com/

Be sure to visit the Royal BC Museum.

Is the Clipper the high speed boat? If so, we were on it from Seattle to Victoria. Man does that baby move! Never saw anybody get sick.

A few problems - We went on top and my wife's $100 sun glasses blew right off! Bye Bye Also, you cannot see out the windows at all - the sea spray.

Stop at San Juan Islands - we didn't and dearly regretted it.

Must see sights:
Beacon Hill Park
Butchart Gardens- go in early evening and see it once in the daylight, then again after it gets dark and the lights are on-its incredible.
Provincial Museum
Take the "scenic drive" along Dallas road-just follow the signs.
Take a drive up the Malahat highway and stop at Goldstream Provincial Park (about 30 minutes from downtown).
Shop downtown
Take a tour of the provincial legislature.
High tea at the Empress Hotel- reservations essential
Eat at Pagliaccis-its right downtown.
If you dont mind the expense-take one of the horse drawn carriage tours.
Its worthwhile to dive up to Sooke (about 30 Minutes) and see (and if possible eat at),the Sooke Harbour House.
Victoria is a walking city, so take good shoes.Have fun.

ps another excellent restaurant- The Deep Cove Chalet. Its a bit of a drive from downtown, but is worth it.

The Clipper is a fast way to get to Victoria. To be honest my hubb and I went years ago and both had a hard time with the boat ride, not unusual for him but very for me. We both dreaded the ride back. Some others had the same problem but many folks were fine.

We took the Victoria Clipper from Seattle to Victoria last June, and we're doing it again this June. The trip there was pretty rough, and although we knew one of the passengers felt queasy, no one that I know of got sick. We actually enjoyed the ride! The seaspray was not a problem - we were able to look out of the windows just fine. The ride back from Victoria to Seattle was very smooth - no bumpiness or swaying whatsoever. From what I hear, it all depends on the conditions of the sea and weather at the time. We're looking forward to our trip again this June!
