I leave early tomorrow morning. I have been planning this trip for months and it is finally here. WOOHOO!!

BTW, I am young 30's too-actually, just 30. When will you be coming to Vancouver? When I get back on 10-1 I was going to write a long post on here.
Hopefully, it will be of some help.

Just came back from a weekend getaway and enjoyed all my dining experiences - Le Gavroche - definitely make reservations here - (http://www.legavroche.com/) and Tojo's (http://www.tojos.com/). Don't think you can go wrong with the Dim Sum - we ate at Granville Chinese Seafood Restaurant. For shopping - Robson Street, Kitsilano area, and Granville Island (very cute, but touristy).

You might enjoy taking a tram up Grouse Mountain, located about 30 minutes north of the city. There's attractions at the top (mostly included in the price), and the views are breathtaking! You can go even higher on the ski lift atop the mountain, which I think is also included in the tram/admission ticket price.
If you might be interested in taking a breather and finding solitude amid the city, Sun Yat-Sen Gardens is very pleasant and relaxing - a quiet pearl amidst the hustle/bustle of the city. Finally, for people watching, Gas Town is a must, which has great restaurants and bars streetside.
Vancouver is a great and beautiful city all around. Have fun!

Re: dim sum We just returned from a wonderful weekend in Vancouver. We spent most of our time wandering, from Granville Island to strolling Robson Street. After much research on chowhound, we tried Imperial Seafood (downtown) and Sun Sui Wah on Main (had to take the bus). We are big dim sum fans, and always try to find a good place when in a city (nowhere around us for dim sum). I liked Imperial better, though they don't have carts, just hard-working servers running around with heavy trays of dim sum. My husband liked both equally, and liked the cook to order bar at Sun Sui Wah for some different dim sum dishes. Have fun.

It's the Sheraton Wall Centre, (named for the Wall family who built it), and it's a good to very good hotel with great views froom the upper rooms. It's very centrally located meaning it's not very close to anything but within walking distance of most downtown attractions. There are three towers, all but one of which is partly condos where the condos have the higher and therefore better view locations. Ask for a Mountain and harbour view suite on at least the 25th floor.

P.S. Best Fish & Chips is very subjective but in the downtown area, Bud's on Denman Street is probably the best.
