Vancouver.

More of interest to kids, and the parents will enjoy it, too.

But the cities are close, and maybe you can visit both.

Victoria has a great museum children love, and they like the boats in the harbour. the ferry ride to the mainloand is enjoyable, and they may see whales.

Vancouver has Gastown, cruise ships, Stanley Park, Granville Island (buy food at the market and make your own picnic outside the market building, watching the buskers and the boats)and more and better beaches, plus the maritime museum.

From Victoria it is easier to see the power and majestry of the Pacific Ocean, if you can head to the west side of the island. For nature-oriented kids, this is spectacular.

But, if I was taking an 11 and a 14 year old, Vancouver would get the nod.

Well it kind of depends on the amount of time you plan to spend in BC. I'm going to play devil's advocate and suggest Victoria as is beautiful with a great harbour, resturants and easy to manage...something I would consider to be very important with and 11 and 14 year old in tow. Vancouver is my hometown and I love it for all its beauty and its edge but tourists need to remember that it is a BIG city with it's own share of problems. Stanley Park/English Bay/ Granville Island are all great but leave those tourist areas and you find a big ol' pot smoking city with social problems. You can't walk down Robson without being acosted by panhandlers or catching a whiff of the BC bud. The Skytrain seems to have become a magnet for wackos and Gastown isn't what it used to be 10 years ago. Worth noting is the fact that Gastown is REALLY close geographically to East Hastings. The other day my friend had her car broken into while parked in the Gastown area and someone vomited in it! Just my opinion but with kids, I would go Victoria.
