I've read lots of suggestions for lunch and dinner. Any great little breakfast places?

I see you've gotten at least one suggestion on your other post.

My favorite place to go for breakfast when I'm in Vancouver is the White Spot (one of the sit down locations, not the take out spots)--it's a Canadian chain but they do a great job for breakfast I think.

I also love to get croissants at the bakery in front of the Sutton Place--yum.

Sophie's Cosmic Cafe has lines out the door on weekends for breakfasts, even at 1:00 in the afternoon. I have not had breakfast there, only lunch, but it certainly is popular. All the people around me were eating breakfast foods.

annetti, HI! I enjoyed so much reading your posts this summer! I feel as though I've read a novel, and as we see things you saw, I'll think, "Oh, this is where they were!" Thank you for taking the time to share so much!
And thanks NWWanderer for the bakery recommendation! I'm going to love all the walking we'll do, because bakeries aren't our best offering in our area, so i'll be looking to indulge up there! Then we'll balance that off with brown rice sushi, right, Annetti?

Hmmmmm... Vancouver is not really a breakfast city. Sophie's Cosmic Cafe always has line-ups, but as a visitor, I don't know if I'd recommend going. I've heard it's overrated and nothing special.

White Spot is good if you're in the mood for casual chain restaurant breakfast.

Milestone's and Cactus Club are two other local BC chain restaurants that do a really good breakfast - it's a tad more trendy/upscale than the White Spot.

If you're craving an old fashioned greasy spoon style breakfast which is completely non-descript and unpretentious bit satisfies your craving of eggs, bacon, sausages, toast, hash browns... then Joe's Grill on Davie fits the bill.

If you want a real Vancouver experience, there's the Elbow Room. It's famous for a lot of things, most notably its service. The gag at the Elbow Room is that the staff are purposely lippy...

If you want something a bit more gourmet and upscale, having brunch on the deck of Monk McQueen's or on the patio of Provence Marinaside is very nice on a beautiful day.

Thanks, southernchef. It has been a hard withdrawal, not finding good sushi places here in Southern California. When I first read about how good the sushi places were in Vancouver, I thought, they must be exaggerating. After all, how much better could they really be, but it is true, at least in our neck of the woods here in So Calif. We have tried at least five places since we have returned, nothing comes really close. The other day, we tried a new place that had just opened up near us and I got into a conversation with the chef/owner, telling him how good Vancouver sushi was. At the end of the meal, in front of everyone in this very small place, he called out to me, "this is better than Vancouver! Right!?" I did not have the heart to disagree with him in front of his customers. He was trying so hard to make it, so I agreed that it was fine. I could not be that heartless, but it was mediocre compared to Vancouver.

Yesterday, we compromised and went to Whole Foods, at least the sushi was brown rice, but again it just does not measure up. End of dissertation on So Calif sushi and its disappointments. PS, I've been asking everyone I know for recommendations, but it just has not worked for us yet. I guess, we will have to come back to Vancouver. My husband is ready. He loved the place.

By the way, southernchef, all that walking which you will certainly do will be the perfect anecdote to all the bakeries you will visit!
