Chill. I didn't mean to infer that Lumiere was the best, not at all. Last Christmas we gave my in-laws (who live in Van) a gift cert for Lumiere, so this Christmas we want to give them a gift cert for another restaurant, that's all. So I thought I would just ask for some suggestions on other good restaurants..something in the $100 range for two for appetizer, main and desserts. They are not drinkers at all. Just was looking for for some restaurant suggestions!

Debbie, I'm sure they'll enjoy a gift certificate to Bishops!

Here's a link I tend to post a lot on Fodors. It's Vancouver Magazine's restaurant reviews. They always have one section that focuses on cuisine, and their opinions are trustworthy. Perhaps for next time, or, if you're still thinking about a restaurant, you can read up on them here. They even have a little review on Bishop's:

http://www.vanmag.com/diningout/westcoast.html
Star Anise hasn't been considered one of the best restaurants in Vancouver in years. They have changed ownership at least once and you rarely hear it mentioned anymore here. I was there myself around a year ago and found it to be mediocre with extremely bad service, but they could have just been having an off night.
