Unusual Victoria/Vancouver question
We will be staying at the Laurel Point Inn in Victoria and the Westin Bayshore in Vancouver during our next long road trip from Denver. Our 3 year old Goldendoodle will be traveling with us and is PETRIFIED of sea lions (she saw and heard an enormous group of them in Newport, Or and almost went into shock--she has Addison's Disease and cannot deal with stress).
. Since both hotels are located along the water, are their seals or sea lions visible? I would like to be prepared in advance. Thanks

No sea lions.
Harbour seals are common by Stanley Park, only when they pop their heads up in the water. They're silent and you won't find them resting on the beach, so I wouldn't be too bothered by that.
How about sea planes? They take off from Burrard Inlet, which is where the Westin Bayshore's located.

I doubt that the dog would react to the harbour seals if they don't bark. The barking of those giant male sea lions is what scared her to death in Oregon. I requested a room at the Westin with a marina view, hoping the room location would be a little buffered from the sea planes. I presume the loud noise only lasts a few minutes?

Judy the Laurel Point also has the sea planes taking off and landing. It is noisy when they take off but it more like a very loud motor boat. I can understand your pup reacting to the sea lions - it is certainly scary to a dog or child. I think that the planes would be more like loud traffic noise to a dog. I know our doxie doesn't mind traffic sounds like loud trucks etc but the bark of certain dogs really upsets her and most she is fine with.

Traveller69--You're right about traffic sounds. She might get startled with a sudden, loud noise, and it doesn't upset her like the sea lions. It's so reassuring to know we won't be encounter those animals. I can always give her extra prednisone but I always avoid more if possible. Thanks for your help.
