Travel ID

I am thinking about taking a trip to Toronto and my question is, can I use my driver's lincense for my ID to cross over the border from the U.S. instead of a pssport or birth certificate? Thank you.

No Mr. Fireman. You driver's license is not enough. You will need your birth certificate as well. The simplest way is to have your passport with you

It's important to remember that you'll have to prove who you are @ the US border upon your return.<BR>If you're a US citizen fine-but they want the paper-no excuses.

It is easy, but sometimes time consuming, to get a certified copy of ytour birth certificate from the records department of whatever city/town you were born in. Can take anywhere from 1 week to forever. Depending on how much time you have before trip, might be easier than hunting down original.

I crossed the border twice recently - on September 12, from New Brunswick into Maine and on the 13th from Vermont into Quebec. I was really concerned - I am (almost) always well prepared for a trip, but this time around, I didn't have my birth certificate or passport with me. I did have my drivers license and Ontario health card (both picture ID). I had no trouble going into the US or coming back into Canada. Having said that, however, I wouldn't do it that way again - even though no one questioned my ID, I would definitely take my passport in the future.
