Toronto Vs Vancouver
Where would be the best places to go to in Canada, this will possibly be my one and only time in Canada. Should I do the Vancouver - Banff Rockies area. Or is Toronto, Niagara Falls, Montreal route better? I enjoy scenery, autumn days - ie leaves changing colours etc. when would that be the best time?
I prefer travellling when there are less tourist crowds. I need all the help I can get, thanks!

You're definately comparing apples and oranges. Vancouver and the rockies are among the most spectacular scenic areas in the world while Toronto, Niagara & Montreal are the cultural and very cosmopolitan heart of Canada.

If you like the fall colours then the Quebec/Ontario area is the place to be in late September early October. That same time of year is not nearly as colourful in Western Canada but the spectacular scenery makes up for it and by late September the tourist crowds have been greatly reduced.

My strong suggestion is that this not be your only visit to Canada. it's a huge country and the two areas you've mentioned are worth a fews visits each to fully appreciate. I ask you this - if you had only one area of the US to visit what would it be - and after seeing it could you honestly say you'd 'seen' the US? It's no different with Canada.

I guess it depends on what you like. I would pick Vancouver-Banff. The mountains are spectacular. Vancouver has lots to see and do, is a beautiful city on the ocean and you are only a couple of hours from Whistler (a world class resort). We just did the drive from Calgary to Vancouver last week and saw a grizzly bear by the side of the road and many deer. Toronto is a big city (nothing special in my mind). It does appeal to others though. Niagara Falls is great to see and Montreal is beautiful. Being in Montreal is like being in a European city. The autumn will be a nice time to travel in both areas but from the leaves are more impressive in Ontario. Check the destination section on the Fodors website to give you a better idea of what each place has to offer. Either way you should have a great time. Hope that helps.
