Toronto? Short Term Apts?

Not a usual on the Canada board, but a friend is looking to rent an apartment, rather than stay at a hotel for a one week summer stay in Toronto. Any suggestions? There will be two of them, visiting to ex-plore interesting neighborhoods, ethinic foods, musuems, shows. We will probably join them for a day or two from our home near Buffalo. They are looking for an interesting neighborhood, and will rely on public transportation, They plan on taking the train to Toronto from NYC. I'm not really good with Toronto neighborhoods any longer. Our more recent trips involved kids hockey so we stayed at places near the rinks.
An old post i found gave a website for something for short term rentals, but it was a bust. It might have been apartments when originally posted, but now it turned out to be a tanning place now.
Thanks for any advice.

I'm wondering about vrbo.com - I've used that for places in Mexico and France, and I know they've got some places listed for Toronto. It might be worth a look.

Just found out my friends reserved a 1 Bdrm suite at the Cosmopolitan Hotel and Spa. Looks nice on the website, any personal observations? Thanks.
