Toronto Shopping

After returning from Montreal and having had such a great time checking out all the fantastic boutiques and stores on St. Catherine and especially St. Denis, I'm wondering what shopping in Toronto is like? What are the comparable streets or district in Toronto? Where can you find the small boutiques and import stores?

As an American it is almost unbelievable to me (thanks to the exchange rate) what we came home with versus what we spent. We loved Montreal and can't wait to visit Toronto (not just for the shopping!)
In Toronto, Yorkville has nice boutiques (but somewhat expensive by Canadian standards). Nearby along Bloor, between Yonge and Avenue Road, are the more expensive stores such as Holt Renfrew, Chanel, etc.

For stores with a little more character, you may want to try Queen St. West or Kensington Market, to name a few areas.

Mike

It's hard to beat the European feel of the boutiques and fashion in Montreal.
I agree that Yorkville has some individual designers and some interesting shops on and around Bloor Street. If I was looking for something special in T.O. I would check out a store called San Remo which is across from Windsor Arms, Holt Renfrew, & Hazelton Lanes stores. Then if I wanted to be adventurous I'd head up to Woodbridge (Steeles & Weston)where there are some magnificent European stores (you could check out the McMichael Collection after
you shopped).

As already posted, Yorville/Bloor and Queen West are the key areas.

In case you were looking for a mall, no one has mentioned the Eaton Centre which is reputedly Toronto's most visited "attraction". Yes, lots of chain stores but they are all under one roof. Do check out the eaton and bay department stores as they are quite large.

A upper middle class mall is Bayview Village at Bayview & Sheppard, just north of Highway 401, has many boutiques.

For a hoot and unbelievably low prices on virtually everthing you could find in a department store try Honest Ed's on West Bloor Street. It's low brow but it's lots of fun.
