Amelie if you don't car to spend $40/day on parking (and who does) you could drive a few blocks up Bay St. and park at the Eaton Centre (major downtown shopping centre). It would be very easy to get to just exit at Bay turn right immediately after the Marriott north of Queen St. Your hotel is a 10 minute walk (or short taxi ride) from there. Saturday and Sunday parking is only $6.

The self parking near the hotel is:

You could phone them and determine if your dates correspond to an "event" which bumps the rate. The hotel is close to two major event venues: Air Canada Centre (NHL hockey and NBA baseball, and the Rogers Centre (Major League baseball and CFL football) plus concerts etc at both.

amelie, you can also park underground on weekends for just $5 per 24 hours at 35 Church Street, just north of the Hot House Cafe at the northeast corner of Front Street. It's not a long walk from the Royal York but drop your bags off first.

By the way, if you mean the weekend of Sept 26th, Toronto area Fodorites are having our third annual get together that evening at the Hot House Cafe starting at 6pm and you would be very welcome to participate. Scroll down to the Toronto GTG thread or contact me for details if you are interested: [email protected]

In the whole scheme of life... pay the forty bucks.

On Saturday I was with a group of people on the north side of Wellington, looking south, right behind the Royal York, and I pointed out that one of those buildings had the highest parking rates I had ever seen.

If you park at 79 Wellington, which is the TD Waterhouse building, try to find a few minutes to go in the lobby and look for the Inuit carving collection. Well worth a detour, and free.
...................

TD Waterhouse Tower - 79 Wellington Street West

Daily Rates:
Monday-Friday 6:00 am to 6:30 pm
$28.00 Daily Maximum
Monday-Friday 5:30 pm to 5:59 am
$10.00 or $20.00 on an event night
Weekends & Holidays 6:00 am to 6:30 pm
$10.00 or $20.00 on an event night
Weekends & Holidays 5:30 pm to 5:59 am
$10.00 or $20.00 on an event night

.............
Remember if you check out after six in the morning on Monday you'll be into 1/2 hour rates of somewhere in the $3 neighborhood, so leave at 8:05 and you'll pay perhaps $$15

So yeah I emailed 79 Wellington and it is an event weekend:

Friday morning - Saturday 6am = $38.00
Saturday 6am - Sunday 6am = $30.00
Sunday 6am - check out (if before 6:30 p.m.) = $10.00

So that is basically going to be $78. Ha!! Hilarious considering for $80 you could park at the Royal York with in and out privileges.

I'm torn between there and Eaton Centre.

Thanks for the invite moolyn, I did see the other post on this. My husband's cousins from Brampton are meeting us in Toronto for dinner Saturday night though, otherwise I would have considered it. Have fun!
