Toronto from Niagara Falls for Baseball Game
We're driving from Newport, RI and plan to stop in Cooperstown, NY on our way to Niagara Falls in July or Aug 2010. We would plan to take in a Red Sox/Blue Jays game and while we'll have our car we're looking for alternative ways to get to the game in Toronto. Any suggestions?

You can leave your car at the Niagara Falls Canada rail station and take Via Rail directly to downtown Toronto... the walk to Rogers Centre is a few blocks... the fare for round trip is about $40 Cdn...
Driving is very easy and takes about 90 minutes to 2 hours on a game day... just take the QEW right to the stadium off of the Gardiner expressway... parking is between $20 and $50 depending on lot location...
GoTransit also has several daily departures from the Niagara falls station and a Daypass is around $35... it takes about 2.5 hours for 8 stops along the way... arrival is also at Union station...
We do several Red Sox games in Toronto and just drive... along the way there are dozens of RS Nation cars and fans to wave to.... I'll wave to you in the train!!! Have fun!

The good news -- see Gary's note -- is that the ball park is close to both the highway from Niagara Falls and the train station from Niagara Falls (either VIS train, which is "real" train, or GO, which is commuter train and/or highway bus.
If you see a photo of Toronto, the ball park is just at the foot of the CN Tower, and the train station in infront of the giant old hotel with Fairmont Royal York on it in giant lettrs.

We share Red Sox tickets for Sunday home games with friends and have gotten spoiled by parking in Quincy and taking the T to Fenway. All of other parks we've visted so far have had awesome public transportatin systems and we weren't sure what this area offered. Maybe we'll just add to our adventure by driving to the ball park. Traffic worse for Friday night, or Sat, Sun afternoon game?
Thanks for the feedback....now off to find an inexpensive hotel. LOL

The key to Red Sox games in Toronto is to arrive in the City well before game time and plan your lunch or dinner before the game... there are thousands of RS Nation that plan trips around a summer visit to Toronto...
The Summer in Toronto is jammed with festivals, games, and tons of tourists... the QEW and Gardiner are great paths to the city but you just can't jump in the car and park next to the stadium at game time...
If you are overnighting, choose a hotel in the entertainment district or waterfront...we like the Intercontinental on Front St., the Hyatt on King, and the Westin Harbour Castle... The Hyatt has some summer rates as low as $159 plus parking, Canadian funds... a lot of people choose the Delta Chelsea on Yonge St... Its a family place with a food court...
If you want a similar experience to the T, look at the GO transit schedule... You can park way outside of the City and ride into the Union Station... but part of the fun is being in the City action...

Or... drive from Niagara Falls to the town of Oakville, which is about 30 miles west of Toronto.
YGet off thehighway at Trafalgar Road, drive south two blocks, turn back west one block, and you'll find yourself at the Oakville GO Transit tain station, with lots of free parking on weekends.
Under $12 per person, round trip, to Union Station, a five minute walk to the ball park.
Weekend trains leave at x:28, and get to Union station about seven minutes after the hour.
(there are other GO stations with free parking, too, but this is the one I live near.)
