Tofino: how can we make this a special romantic holiday?
My husband and I will be in Tofino for four days. We're staying at Long Beach Resort and have an ocean view room. We will celebrate our wedding anniversary while we're there and I'd like this to be a special time for both of us. What romantic spots or favorite inspiring places are around Tofino? We are active folks who love the water and hiking.

There is a lookout called Radar Hill that is located in the park boundaries. If it is a clear day, you can drive up, find a nice spot and watch the sunset. Bring a refresment of your choice, but keep it "under wraps" - we have very strict liquor laws in B.C. The view is amazing, you can see down the coastline and the mountainous rainforest.

Take a boat trip to the hotsprings (you'll see adverts for this service in town). The hotsprings involve a short hike but well worth it. Some trips include a bit of whale watching. Try Lunch at Wikinninish Inn (sp?), the ususal waterfront dinner dinning, long walks on the beach. You used to be albe to take a boat to Meares Island, they drop you off, then you can walk around a 1 1/2 hour to 2 hour easy grade hike through the rainforest - very peaceful, you will encouter very few people (except the 3-6 other people on the boat with you). Take snacks and refreshments of your choice (don't worry about cops here - this land, I believe, is owned by the natives). They will pick you up a couple of hours away. I did this a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it.

I'd recommend doing Hot Springs Cove in the evening, as long as you take along some good flashlights. It can be quite crowded during the day, and possibly very warm as well if it happens to be a hot day. We really enjoyed the night hike, and especially if you want a more romantic experience it's nicer if you're not sharing the hot springs with a few dozen other people.

DAR, thanks for all of your thoughtful suggestions - kayaking, trips to Hot Springs and Meares Island (love the idea of ancient cedars), Radar Hill, and walks on the beach. Are planning to do all of them, if possible. Also appreciate the suggestion for a meal at the Wick (won't attempt the spelling!). Will save this for anniversary lunch/dinner.
Meesthare, did you take a commercial tour to the Hot Springs? Every tour I've checked has a return time of about 7PM - before sunset. It would be so romantic to sit in the hotsprings at sunset.
Do either of you recall which charter you used - Jamies, Sea Trek, Remote Passages, Adventures Pacific, Seaside Adventures, Ocean Outfitters, others?

Actually what we did was - we stayed at InnChanter, which is a houseboat parked near the dock at the head of the trail to Hot Springs Cove. It's used as a B&B - very nice, although not super-luxurious. The hostess rowed us over to the trail for our hike, and picked us up afterwards.
