South Toronto

The next time I come to Toronto, should I avoid South Toronto? Is it safe to travel there?

What do you mean by south Toronto? South of Bloor, south of Queen? And east end or west end?

Hi, I agree with Susan above. What could you have heard about 'south' Toronto I wonder. I live and work downtown and would venture all of 'south' Toronto is safe and holds many of the usual tourist destinations in fact.

Well, there are a lot of lawyers and money market types here in South Toronto - you should avoid them.

I read in the Globe and Mail this morning about VERY IGNORANT U.S. congressman John Hostettler's comments on "South Toronto". What an idiot! Maybe he should travel some more to broaden his very limited knowledge before he opens his mouth. To answer the original poster, I assure you that you will enjoy your visit to "South Toronto", otherwise known as Downtown TO! This is the location of the Skydome, CN tower, many world class restaurants, hotels etc.

Well, Representative Hostettler who warned that South Toronto was a breeding ground for terrorists must know what he is talking about. After all, he is the Chairman of the House sub-committee on immigration and border security, and not some right-wing nut case. I'm sure that he also knows first hand about airport security, as he was arrested and convicted for packing heat at Louisville airport a couple of years ago.

However, I'm reassured by some of the replies that South Toronto is relatively safe, and that I'm not likely to encounter random car bombings. Nonethless, just to be sure, I think that I'll stay away from Wards Island and Hanlan's Point for the next little while.

Saw part of an interview at lunch with Henry Champ, the CBC's man in Washington and he seemed to think many more than this one jackass feel the same way.

I guess I've been living with my head in the sand. I didn't know the Toronto Islands had been renamed South Toronto! I'll have to pay more attention.
