Ski B.C.
I've been to Whistler/Blackcomb plenty of times (I'm from Seattle), and am looking to spend a week this winter trying somewhere else in B.C. We are a family of four, with two teenagers and a wife who prefers to lounge around the fireplace with a good book (i.e. it would be nice if there was something else for her to do nearby). We would prefer not to drive more than 6-7 hours from Seattle, so that leaves out the areas in eastern B.C. I was thinking about Silver Star, Apex, Big White, and Red Mountain, but have never been to any of them. Any recommendations?

silverstar is a very family orientated ski hill. my sister's family loves it there and you are close enough to vernon to zip down to town easily. i also enjoyed big white. apex, silver star & big white are close enough that you could ski a couple of different places.

Sun Peaks just North of Kamloops is very good powder skiing and was developed by the people instrumental in starting Whistler/Blackcomb. The lodge facilities are virtually brand new since the original burnt down last year just after opening. In good weather Kamloops is about 3-3 1/2 hours from the I-5 border crossing via the Coquihalla, but you'ld be better off to cross at Lynden/Sumas and save over half an hour driving time.

Manning Park Resort is 2hrs from the sumas boarder crossing. No toll hyway, very quiet and relatively unknown.... good road and with an elevation of 6000 ft.... the best powder.

http://skibc.com/skiresorts_manning.html
