Ruth,
Robson Street (and just off) has a huge variety of restaurants. A little more info would be helpful (such as $ range, lunch, breakfast dinner, type of cuisine). I have my favorites but am reluctant to recommend anything without knowing more about what you are looking for)

You've got a TON of choices, even with those criteria:
-Earls
-Milestones
-Red Robin (these three are mid-level "chain" restaurants)
-Cin Cin (high-end, if you want to see movie-stars)
-Zefferellis (mid-range pasta place)
any number of Japanese places
-Joe Fortes (just off Robson, at Thurlow and Alberni - seafood and chop house)
-The Keg (just off Robson, also at Thurlow and Alberni - known for steak)
-Samba's (Thurlow & Alberni - Brazilian steakhouse)
I'm sure others can recommend many other places as well...

I'd recommend Milestone's for a mid-price good to excellent dining experience. Many cuts above Earl's in terms of service and quality.
Samba' - lots of fun, but was not impressed with quality of meat.
Cin-Cin - very very good and quite pricy. Also a bit "snobby". Hubby is a mainstream eater, so at an Italian restaurant, he was looking for a "red sauce and meat-balls" type dish. No such thing on the menu. Alright, so DH is no sophisticate when it comes to dining, but the server was "sooo" condescending when he replied to DH's query that I had to cringe!

saharabee - not surprised by the attitude at Cin-Cin's - it's been 'the place to be seen" for quite a while in Vancouver however that doesn't always mean quality service unless you're Denzel Washington...I'm going for the Dine Out Vancouver festival so I'll post my comments after I've been...
In my opinion, Earl's, Cactus Club and Milestones are on about the same level...all are trying to be somewhat high-end, but they all manage to be fairly mid-range...not that that's necessarily a bad thing.
