Quiet/remote places to stay in Gros Morne?

Hi there,

I've been reading Trip Advisor every day, trying to figure out where we should stay in Gros Morne. I just can’t seem to get a pulse on the best lodging. Sometimes I read the reviews wondering if the posters even stayed at the same place…their comments are usually at one end or the other.

If you have stayed in a nice, quiet B&B (or lodge, I guess) that may not make it on to Trip Advisor, please share. I’ve read that Rocky Harbour is a popular homebase for touring the park, but can get quite packed. On my last few vacations, I’ve been disappointed in the party type people having zero consideration for those around them….so I’d like to stay somewhere that may not be too appealing to that type of person. We like to be up and out the door early and would like a good night’s rest.

Thanks!

Norris Point is a quieter place to stay. We rented a cottage/cabin from Terry's b&b - partial view of Bonne Bay - very clean and quiet. He also has a b&b set up in the house; there are a couple of other b&b's in Norris Point as well as a nice inn. I do not remember the names but I am sure they are in the travel guide. A little bit out of the way is Trout River. Now that is quiet. I have never stayed out there, but rode my bicycle in that area. Crocker's Cabins (I think they are called) is outside of town basically not around anything but each other.

Quite frankly, even at the height of the season, you will find Rocky Harbour a pretty quiet place. You would probably want to avoid the Ocean View Hotel as it has entertainment in the bar most nights, but other than that there are many quiet B&Bs in town. We stayed at the Wildflower a few years ago and liked it.

If you do want something a bit more isolated, the suggestion of Norris Point is a good one. We have stayed at the Sugar Hill Inn which has a nice dining room and comfortable accommodations. Neddies Harbour Inn is close to the water--friends have stayed there and enjoyed it.

Our last trip to Gros Morne, we stayed on the other side of Bonne Bay in Woody Point. If you really want quiet, this is the place to be. We stayed at Aunt Jane's Place, quite charming B&B.

Thanks very much!

I had looked at Sugar Hill, but the rooms we wanted were already booked. I'm so glad we started booking now; there won't be anything left in a week or two!

I ended up selecting one of the Getaway Cottages through Neddie's Harbour Inn (McKenzie's Retreat). Small, clean, and a view! We're looking forward to using this as our base. Thanks again!

Sounds like you found a spot already, but Periwinkles Cottage in Norris Point is also quite nice...Google it.

In any case, enjoy your trip!
