Porland to Victoria, B.C. or San Juan Islands by train and ferry
We want to travel from Portland to Victoria by train and ferry. So far the best bet appears to be to take the train from Portland to Seattle and the Victoria Clipper ferry from Seattle to Victoria. Ferries to the San Juan Islands all seem to leave from from places (Port Angeles, Anacortes) not accesible by train.
Is there a train that goes from Portland to Vancouver? If so, we could then take a ferry from Vancouver to Victoria.

What you're planning is your best bet, unless you want to spend the night in Seattle after taking the train from Portland, and take the train on to Vancouver the next day (it leaves once a day at about 7 AM).
However, the ferry from Vancouver to Victoria doesn't go from downtown to downtown like the Victoria Clipper does--so you'd have to take a bus (the bus takes you to the ferry, goes on the ferry and then takes you to Victoria at the other end--both terminals are about 30 minutes from downtown). But it would be relatively easy, as Pacific Coach Lines (the bus) goes from the train station in Vancouver.
