Ottawa Suite hotel options

Hi - We have visited Ottawa a number of times, usually stay at the Albert at Bay which is fine, but wouldn't mind investigating something a little closer for walking to the Byward Market area. We once stayed at Les Suites, but that was quite a few years ago and I honestly don't remember how it compared to Albert at Bay. What other suite hotels can you recommend? The suite can be a little smaller than the full size apartments at Albert and Bay, and don't mind spending a little more if we have to, but would like to keep expenses somewhat under the "luxury" price range if we can. Thanks!

Les Suites is certainly the closest suite hotel to the Byward Market as it is only a block away. However, you might also want to check out the Marriott Residence Inn on Laurier (between Elgin and Metcalfe) which is perhaps a 10 minute walk at the most from the market. If you don't want a suite hotel, then the Marriott Courtyard is right in the market.

A little bit further away, though still closer than the Albert at Bay, is the Embassy Hotel and Suites on Cartier St. There are also several other suite hotels nearby to it on Cooper St, including the Cartier Suites and the Holiday Inn Hotel and Suites

Laverendrye - any chance the canal will freeze in time for Winterlude?

Sally, good chance that the canal will be open by Winterlude. This week's cold spell has resulted in ice about two-thirds the thickness needed. Normal cold weather should get it the rest of the way within the next two weeks.

Thanks, Ron. I'll have to get the old blades out and head north.

Here's the latest from the NCC. It seems likely that the canal will be open for skating:
