One week might be too much. Depends when you're going. Summer should be o.k. You can do the city in about four days. Then you can daytrips to places like Niagra Falls.

If you visit in the summer then a week is not too long especially if you tie it into one of the many outdoor festivals such as Caribana, Gay Pride Week, Caravan, etc. Also the Toronto Harbourfront has themed summer weekend celebrations - most of the concerts, films, etc. are usually free and there's outdoor food courts. Enjoy!

A week in Toronto is 6 days too much. If you have been around much, there is nothing new to see. It's just generic big city with no local character or interest. There are some decent resaurants, but nothing you haven't seen before. (Ironically, the one unusal place that tries to capture Canada is Timber Lodge, but it's way up in Markham. And he wait there is ridiculously long.)

After you've ridden up the CN Tower and maybe gone to the Hockey Hall of Fame, looked into the Eaton Centre and maybe walked around Yorkville you're done. That's about 1/2-1 day. There's the Science Center, but it's not worth the trek out to Don Mills, unless you've never seen a science center before.

The museums, etc are very poor for a big city, although the ROM is worth a look. The AGO is a very poor bif city art gallery, although they have nice gift shop. The only historic point of interest is Fort York, but there's not much to see there. There's the Harbor Front, but again, not much there except a bunch of condos.

There are ethnic neighborhoods, but nothing unique. Chinatown is large, but if you want good Chinese food, don't eat there. The good places are all north of the 401 where the newer Chinese immigrants have settled.

There are signs of life at Kensington and St. Lawrence Markets, but if you're not buying food, they probably aren't worth the hassel.

David - we spent a week in the Toronto area last summer and could have stayed another few days. As a family of four (kids 5 and 9) we went to a Blue Jays game, CN Tower, Toronto Islands, Canada's Wonderland, Niagara Falls, Midland Ontario, the ROM, and the zoo.

Didn't get to Casa Loma, any of the parks in the city, didn't wander around the Beaches or Yorkville, never went to the Eaton Centre, the Science Center or to Ontario Place or to the Hockey Hall of Fame. Never dined in any of the fabulous looking restaurants (not an option with weary children) or did any shopping.

There is lots to do in Toronto. My kids want to go back. They liked it as much or more than NYC or Boston.

I don't think a week in Toronto is too much, especially in the summer. We are spending a long weekend there starting this Thursday and I am wondering how we are going to fit everything in ...between plays, the museums, shopping, exploring all of the different neighborhoods, The CN Tower, Science museum, Hockey hall of fame, and relaxing and swimming at the hotel...I wish we were spending an entire week there!

Hi, i am due to travel to toronto in march, being from england this is a huge adventure for me. I am traveling alone and staying for two weeks, so i have found some of the remarks very interesting, hotels compared to england are cheap, and food seems to be a plenty and the buildings and natural features seem to far outway anything britain has to offer! I cant wait....is two weeks to much?
